well lets see when I towed my 19' bayliner with my 96 5.0L explorer AWD my fuel mileage was CRAPPY/ Mile
at 65-75 mph, flat highway, tires pumped up, 400 mile trip, I would say I got about 8 mph maybe 10
However we also have a 97 AWD 4.0L OHV, we use this truck to tow the jet skis (2 1200 cc Kawasaki 2 seaters) and that truck gets the exact SAME believe it or not, we always had to fill up at the same time!
Now my 96 has a cam, headers, and 33" tires LOL, but I have 3.73 gears with 33" tires, so my highway mileage was decent! 2200 rpm at 70 mph with boat (once you get moving! LOL)
Anyways my point to all this because I actually have no idea how many mpg I got towing, is since I ditched AWD and went to a selectable transfer case I get 1.5 the MPG on the highway towing, same truck, same tires, same boat, same trip
so I weould say 12 or so MPG would be my GUESS without actually keeping track.
this summer I will be making that trip alot, so I will keep track so we can see for sure what to expect froma truck like mine
