Need a Sub Box???

yes they are, q logic, jl and mtx all make a very pricey enclosure to fit in that space in 91-01 explorers.

..Who makes the best box and who makes the cheapest costing???

Not sure on that, they are all just molded plastic boxes, they aren't cheap though ~$200 for the mtx and q logic and much more for the jl.

Tbar, if you end up making some of those boxes that fit where a stock sub would, i would be interested. How much do you think it would cost? You go back to Big Bear lately?

...I have researched this a bit and it's looking like I may make a few of these...One problem is that subs require different cut out sizes so I need a dimension per sub model for this....

...The cost of these for will cheaper than quoted above but I still need to make one and verify shipping cost...Any ideas who would be reasonable to use for shipping???

...I took my X up to Big Bear the weekend of the the big snow this year...The X played shuttle bus duties that day and I recently talked to the people I took up there..They can't wait for another big snow storm...:biggthump

Would it make sense to send out all the cut out panels, a bag of nails/screws and directions on how to put it together? I think that would be the easiest way of shipping if you have a big/awkward sub box. Maybe sell at a more discounted price if the customer has to put it together?
Im not "in the know" about box building, so Im not sure if that be a option or not.

if you made one i would prefer to buy an assembled box with no hole cut, that way i could choose placement and size

...I would prefer to assemble them complete before shipping...I could send them with no hole cuts and leave it up to the purchaser and I can supply a piece of carpet too...The purchaser would have to cut their own holes and cut/install the carpet....

...There are still a few minor bugs to work out such as mounting etc., but I feel confident that this will work out...:biggthump

it should be possible to use the mounting that the factory box and amp uses. I was planning on making my own and using those to hold, but I dont have the time to design and build when its below freezing out.

...My X has the storage compartment and I don't think they have any mounting set up if it didn't already come with a sub...

...If CJExplorer is really interested, maybe he can come up by Disneyland for the day and we can build and install the first one in his X to verify some second gen fitment...;)

my old first gen with the premium sound amp in the back and the pocket had a bracket that went from under the window to a stud on the wheel well i think.

any progress on a possible build on these sub boxes?

...As in Post #37, I was hoping CJExplorer would be bringing his second gen by but he bought a sub box used from someone....

...I am still planning on making these but I need an X we can open up and I can template...My X is down right now and where it's stabled, I can't work on it there...:(...I will be working on my X in the next week or 2 and then I will be able to use it if I can't get someone X to bring there's by...

...I should be in production of them and ready to ship before the end of March, at least that's my first mentioned and last preferred to ship date... It is one I'm going to keep even if it I don't have a second gen to use...;)

if your making the a box that goes in the rear panel like i think your talking about there's dimensions for building the box floating around out there somewhere. i believe 1st and 2nd gen are the same dimensions

...If I am going to make them, they will be better built than the one you are talking about... there also are a couple dimensions missing from that post..;)

Ok i didn't really inspect the dimensions as i don't really have the tools to build it myself. I would possibly be interested in purchasing one if you do get to the point of making and selling them.

...I may need to figure how many I need to make...

...I plan on making at least 2, but can easily make more at the same time if there is enough interest...:dunno:

...Counting you, I will say you are number #1...

yes pending it fits a 2nd gen. i do have a sport but i believe they are all the same, and what the cost and then shipping it clear across the country to me, but it that all works out then im in.

have you heard of the JL Stealth Box?
is there anyway you could, make a couple of those for me?

ill go look for the dimensions for ya

...I am going to make the boxes to fit as a stealth box, same hole as the stock location...;)

...They will be made of a plywood design...
