So driving on I-90 last night about a mile before Whitewood, and hit a deer doing about 70-75MPH. Pulled over in Whitewood to inspect it. Grille is broken, passenger headlight is busted out, only the driving light, the marker light and turn signal is still there. The front air damn is gone and the passenger side fog light is pretty useless now. The only real BODY damage is the bumper was tweaked. There is no gap between the bumper and the fender, but on the driver side there is a big gap.

How hard would it be to replace both headlights with new ones (maybe some HID or projectors?) and maybe get a billet grille.
BTW, this is a 98, 5.0, 4WD, Eddie Bauer edition.
I saved the Ford oval too. It was falling off so I just popped it out and set it in the cup holder.

Thanks,
Sawyer

PS: If there are any local guys who wanna come help me out, I would much appreciate it. My step-dad will not accept the fact that this will be and easy fix and we wont have to go to a body shop.

I have diamond clear headlights and corners and they are sweet, either that or change over to a Mountaineer front end.

I was more asking how hard it would be to replace the items damaged. I just threw in some thoughts of what I might do with it.

wow 70 MPH and hit a deer, consider yourself lucky with the damage you have!!
70 MPH andlarge deer can be fatal and total your truck.

so yeah glass is half full!

Take some pics of the damage :)
check the gap between your fender and door and fender and cowl just to make sure the damage stopped at the bumper

Sounds like bambi went under the truck = good for you, but bad for alignment, may want to check that out as well.

Mom says it drives fine. The other night was its first trip outta the driveway in 2 months. She has driven it yesterday and today. I work before she gets home from work, but I will try and get some pics shortly. I have some on my phone, but its dark.

dam...lucky....I am sure it's not difficult...take your time..get a beer and a couple people for a crowd watching event.....I would wait till it's warm out thou...

I will see your dmage and raise you a header pannel.

Based on your description, I can nearly guarntee your header pannel is also damaged.

Grille, head lights and header pannel is not a difficult task. A bit time consuming for a amature, but well with in reach.
Tools needed.
8mm socket
11mm socket
10mm socket
Extension at least 11 inches long
a swivel adaptor
a phillips screw driver
a long skinny flat head screw driver
a flashlight
needle nose pliers
a two leiter bottle of minute made lemon aide

Let me know when you want me to walk you through the process

What is the header pannel exactly?
And I am not an amature. Helped a friend take the whole front valance off his 2001 Chevy truck awhile back. Headlights, grille, radiator, bumper, etc.

header pannel is the large fiberglass pannel that the headlights mount to.

Sorry I did not mean to imply you were an amature. I was stating the fact that some one, be it you or who ever reads this thread might need several hours to complete the task .
I was just trying to be as through and helpful as possible.

Deer hits can be deceiving, they are what we call "soft" impacts. Not to imply little damage, but the damage can be more than what it appears. Monmix is right-on, the header is probably broken inside, your rad support may also be bent behind it.

How's the repair work going?

(By the way, that is one fast deer... :D

How's the progress on your repair work going? How about the grille? You're going to put a 5.0 emblem on there or stick with the Ford logo? (Notice how an accident/damage can push you to do mods?) Once you see the damage, you just hook it up, might as well. Sounds like a good project... :exp:
