New ARB Safari Snorkel

Ok, since I got this update to this thread...

I drove out to OK 4 Wheel Parts- I was gonna sight fit a snorkel from a Toyota, but they didn't have any in stock. They only had a few that for heeps.

SO- I ordered the Head (scoop) and the Rain Grille for it.

I guess I'll have to fab the rest.

BTW- those 35x12.50s are freaking HUGE! That's the first time I saw one up close and personal.

Nice job

How long is the 2.5" id area, and have you noticed any decrease in performance with this slight restriction?

Can you guys fork over some part #'s & pricing for the scoop & grills??? I tried to get those parts seperately a few years ago and got a ration of **.
Thx

Sorry guys, been outta town for the last week.

Rx4phun, all of my breathers are extended way up, (some into the cab itself).

Lefy, I bought the top part of the snorkel from JD's and I did stop by their shop since I thought they might have parts there instead it was more of a "yeah we can order that"

Toy4x - The part# might be ARB 000135000. That's the only number I have on my invoice. It actually breaths a lot easer since it used to get all the air though a 1.5 or 2" hole in the airbox to begin with.

Ok, got my snorkel...one question- did you paint that PVC black or did it come black?? And you list it as PVC conduit?? Is that something different from PVC pipe??

The only PVC up here is white...I got a 3" piece of ABS (black PVC), but it's no good for going into the snorkel- the ID is 3", snorkel is 3" ID, so I was looking at 3" exhaust pipe and it's a perfect fit for the snorkel...I mean perfect.

That ought to work, right?

I'm just a little concerned about rusting...I might use the exhaust pipe just to join the ABS PVC to the snorkel and paint the outside of the pipe before I clamp it down.

Yeah, I just painted the pvc pipe, you can use conduit or any sort that works. I just found that the electrical conduit had the right size and bends that I needed.

Yeah, I went into a plumbing supply up here they go right from 2" PVC to 3" PVC, there's no in between...

Oh well, back to the rigging board...

Oh that's right, now I remember why I went with the conduit. Try Home Depot or Lowes they'll have it.

I'm headed to Lowes tomorrow to get the conduit to start Karol's snorkel. Looks like I need about 6-7' of straight, 2 45° pieces and 1 90° piece.

Kewl...Thanks!

thats really sweet! i want to make myself something like that for a first gen x. i have a lot of water problems, already hydrolocked my engine once actually

Almost there...just gotta cut the fender...you guys are a bad influence! :D

Tomorrow I'll slice up the fender... :D

Lookin' good!, now people get an idea of what it looks like behind that fender before beginning since I forgot to take any pics myself.

Also does anyone know if you can heat up the PVC and work it? If so would a heat gun be sufficient to soften the PVC?

I've got a design for a snorkel, but it requires some flat material, well not completely flat butI figure if I can work the PVC I can flatten it out to work.

AJ,
You can buy a PVC heating blanket from most electrical supply houses. Under 30 bux i think. I use mine all the time at work and it's big enough to go around 4in pvc with layers to spare! THe blanket plugs into a normal house outlet. Just remember that the blanket gets REALLY hot, so wear gloves and keep checking the pvc so it doesn't melt! :0)

just curious how did you guys seal the airbox?

how did you guys secure the tubing? i see bolts but did you weld a nut on the back of the panel or what?

I just used pipe clamps...I don't know exactly what they're called some washers and nuts.

I reached around with one hand, the only one I had a problem reaching was the one behind the AC Evaporator (?), because it was a tight squeeze.

I just got mine done the other day. I will post pics when there is some decent light outside. I paid about $100 for everything.
