Newly purchased 01 V8

Yeah the school zone thing was more of a joke. But when you get to 70 MPH, it becomes more like 4-5. So just speeding in general is worse than you "think", and you have to remember that when you're going "4 over" that it's really more like "8" at 70-75. It all depends on the state or municipality, or just how bored the cop is if they decide to pull you over and issue a warning. I had a nice reminder on Hwy 97 from an Oregon Sheriff, but I just got a little warning. I'm 99% sure that wouldn't happen in my hometown.

Also I want to just add a side comment; my grandpa bought my explorer from a dealership about ten years ago now. He told me he would keep it for himself or I could pay him (my parents helped a little too) to keep it. I wasn't super happy at the time, until I took it camping in some crazy backwoods with my friends some years later and one of them understood what I had. We went up a pretty "rough" trail (for forest service standards - it was closed) in its stock configuration and I'm so glad I have this thing!

The Explorer is looking pretty good with the new tires! Picked up a set of Cooper Discoverer AT 3 in stock size (255 70r16) from Walmart for pretty cheap. Think this size is discontinued, but I gambled on them and the date code is from 2023 so they aren't super old stock or anything. Now the speedo is only like 1 mph higher than gps says at 40 so that is good. These should do great in winter weather!

Nice tires. Our Walmart had those for $165 a tire… a very good price for that cooper imo

Good choice, I have that tire as a spare set I got three months ago, but not from Walmart. This last week I needed to do new tires since my old ones were finally too thin. Walmart still has the tire I replaced, on an early black Friday sale, for $105 each, in that size. I told a few people at work about them, but the sale is only on a few sizes, possibly what they may discontinue. But I wanted them because my last set of them has been great in the rain. It's the Evolution HT2, which has a more passenger car tread pattern.

Wal Mart is the place to get cheap tires for Black Friday. I just picked up a set of Goodyear Wrangler Authority for $155 each.

My brother likes the Cooper Discoverer series, but claims they don't wear well. The tread pattern isn't bad, I'm curious to see how they work out for you.

P.S. That red over gray looks super sweet!

The Evolution HT2 Coopers wear well and so far I'd call them the best wearing of the Cooper SUV tires. I have been using up a set of tires in under a year as long as I have delivered mail with my Explorers. The first set I tried were Michelin's, they lasted 11 months, and for an expensive tire($165 in 2011ish), that was way too much. I then went to the Cooper, and I got a similar time from them, those were the new 4S tire then. That 4S model has a more off road tread pattern while the Evolution is a passenger tread design. I've had similar wear from all of the Cooper tires, but the last set I just replaced of the HT2, they wore very well when they were close to worn out. I think those survive hard cornering a little better than other rubber compounds they use.
