opps..too deep of water

after going through some pretty deep water (up over the back bumper in the middle), my explorer wouldnt even crank. it would make the crank noise, but it was like it couldnt get past the exhaust stroke. it stalled in the middle and my buddy had to pull me out. we finally got it running and it blew about 2 gallons of water out the exhaust pipe. (it sat in the water for about 5 minutes...hard to get to). now its running fine and back to its old self, except for starting. i remember before the small pond, the starter had more oomf, so to speak. it just sounds kinda weak right now. what should i do?

sounds like you have some gunk in your starter. you could clean it or replace it to see if that helps

where exactly is the starter located? and what would i clean it with?

The starter is located on the transmission bell housing, you cannot miss it.

Not trying to be rude, but you really ought to get an understanding of your vehicle before going wheeling with it. You need to understand where the parts are not only to avoid damage, but to repair it also.

Something tells me if you do not know where the starter is, you shouldn't be messing with taking it apart either.
If you do get it apart, wd40 is a great water dispersing cleaner.

i never even took the time to look for it dude. i was on here and figured i'd ask. i have worked on that thing alot, just never on that side of the tranny. thanks for your concern.

But yea, you really cant miss the starter, you obviously gotta be under the truck right behind the drivers side front wheel.

Like Turdle said though, have a full can of WD40 handy

Can you say hydrolock? You should pull the plugs then crank it. Change all the fluids. Check the air filter for damage. If you did not do terminal damage to the engine you are very lucky.

it wouldnt run if it was hydrolocked though...correct? it runs amazing. just a little slower on the cranking aspect. it still runs like a champ, just doesnt crank quite as fast as it used to before the water incident.

haha ya no kidding. i put my explorer through a lot...i want more ground clearance to avoid stuff like this. i cant help but think its a monster truck sometimes. haha.
