Well, Its time. at just over 310k miles another a4ld is dying... Tranny #5 (I had 2 bad rebuilds) will NOT be an a4ld...

I'm going for the 700r4 with adapters.

My question is, is there anyplace that is good that I shoudl use, or bad (shouldn't use) to get a 700r4 with the output shaft from advance adapter built? I don't need anything really fancy (like a JET tranny etc).. Just a good rebuild of a 60 degree 7004r with all the updates that won't cost an arm and a leg.

I'm really trying to do this for about the same price as getting the a4ld replaced.

In general the Adapters seem to cost about $800-$850 + shipping and a transmision from bowtie is about $900ish (I don't know how much extra to get a different output shaft)... So the tranny and adapters should be about $1700 and if I can get the rest of the misc pieces for $300-$500 (shifter, TV cable and dip-stick) I'm still in the right price range..

I have about 15 working days until I have the cash to do it, but I figure I should ask where to or where not to buy the tranny from.

Bump..

No input? So far I'm leaning to get the tranny + extras (TV cable, shifter etc) from bowtime conversions.. (I now have the cash burning a hole in my pocket)

I'll call Cory at CRL tomorrow and see how his prices are.. Advance adapter has lowered their prices. As long as he isn't more than Advance adapter (including shipping) I'll get it from CRL (trying to send business to explorerforum people).

I'd love some input if anyone has had bad/good experience with Bowtie service and parts quality..

Thanks..

I think bowtie builds good trannies.....but for a while they had some difficulties with the TV system setup for the 4.0. For example, they sent me the wrong length TV cable and took forever to manufacture TV cam systems when several of us ordered them. Otherwise, after we got everything squared away, I have been impressed with bowtieoverdrives' products and the results I've gotten from them.

Adapter kits are ordered... Have a couple week wait for them as the last batch of adapters weren't milled right. Advance Adapters sent them back to get them fixed (aparently, not enough material was removed)...

Once I get the adapters, I'll keep ya all posted...

Both Adapter kits are here...

The output shaft goes into the mail Tuesday (day after labor day)...

Once the tranny is here I'll start posting pics etc of the install.. It actually looks somewhat easy..

I can't wait to have the 700r4...

May be too late, but transmissioncenter.net makes HD 700R4's

I think they send the short cable to everyone  Even after two or three others mentioned they had the wrong cable and called and got the right cable, I still got the wrong cable. If your cable doesn't have a white sticker with "Ford 4.0" on it, its probably the wrong one.

It is for the most part. Just time consuming. good luck
