My display is still working after a week. But I haven't yet put the top on the radio, and I haven't snapped it into the dash. I pulled it out after a short trip (20 minutes or so), and touched the top of the shield. Holy cow, does that thing get HOT! Hot enough to burn you. Truly amazing that it functions for any length of time at all.

With the lid off the radio, it sits very close to some foam on the underside of the AC duct - I'm surprised the foam hasn't melted or caught fire.

I have a 2005 Ford explorer sport track xlt with the premium package and a 6 cd player unit ( Pioneer model) the radio display is very dim is there a way to adjust it and if so how do I do this. I would appreciate any help that you can offer me.

I have the same probelm with my radio this information is helpfull I will give it a try before replacing the radio with an after market one hate to spend the money when this radio works fine just the display dosn't work.I only purchased the truck 2 months ago didn't notice it then.

hi to everyone I'm new here. I got the same problem plus my sub doesn't work because of the radio. Can someone help me in the the sub woofer part. please

Hey guys, my radio's LED also just fizzled out.

I read the thread and took the radio apart. It seems that someone worked on this PCB before because there are some shiny solder joints compared to the others which are old and dull.

The PCB itself looks pretty burnt where the hot resistors are, but it was working before so I don't think its dead for that reason. Is this PCB too burnt or could I still try resoldering?

I also noticed the R1053 and R1058 resistors on the top edge seem to be bridged together with solder, could this be the problem? Does anyone's working PCB have those two resistors touching?

Any advice would be great, I'm not very experienced with electronics. Here are some pics to show what this one looks like

Does anyone know a list of Model/Year cars with radios that have this LED display board?

I'm trying to look for junkyards to get a replacement board but so far none of them have the same year Explorer as mine.

I'm trying to look for junkyards to get a replacement board but so far none of them have the same year Explorer as mine.

All of the display boards in all of the similar Mach and Premium radios are bad. My guess is 1998-2001 Explorers and all trucks, and a couple of Ford cars with that size of radio.

Absolutely every one of them is defective. Don't waste money or time trying to fix them, replace the display board with a new board. They are not expensive, but it's cheapest to pay someone to do it. Last I read it's still around $60 total.

The new boards evidently can only be purchased in groups, say 4-5 at a time. You don't need more than one, so find a repair shop that deals with them. Pay them their $30 or so profit to R&R the parts, I think it's worth that.

FWIW: No one seems to be selling the board any longer. If you cannot fix yours (my resolder lasted about a month) you'll need to ship it out to either the ebay user biscaynekid or use the "save my sanity" method as described in earlier posts. Of course there are some local shops that may have a few replacement boards laying around, but no one that I can find. Any other updates that anyone might have, please post.

Searching junk yards and ebay... my board is toast. Does anyone know if the non RDS HU has the same board in it as the RDS HU? The HU itself looks identical. Found a few working non RDS HUs on ebay.

Also, what other vehicles was the RDS MACH HU in? Mountaineer, Crown Vic, Nissan Quest, and.... ?

Thanks.

EDIT: A few posts above answered my second question.

Looks like I'm the only one posting in this thread... If you're still having issues and can't get it going on your own, send your HU out to ebay user biscaynekid. $45, plus shipping. Operates flawlessly, and he guarantees his work.

I'm having a display issue with my 07' Ford Edge OEM radio/CD display. Why can't there simply be a bulb back there? I had heard about having to resolder, which I don't feel comfortable doing.

Yep, that is what I said, see previous post. Mine is still working not worth the trouble to do it yourself.

Exactly. Mike's the man, super easy to deal with, quick fix/shipping back, and very fair price considering the alternatives out there. Not worth messing with it yourself if you can't solder very well.

Uh oh....looks like he isn't active on ebay anymore? Anyone have any other thoughts?
Thanks!

He usually puts an ad out there for 30 days, it may have just expired send me a PM and I will give you his email address.

Ok I know this is a pretty old thread but I have a question. If I remove the radio to clean and re-solder the circuit board and it DOESN'T work wouldn't I have to enter the code to unlock the radio? And is it possible to enter the code without the benefit of the display?

A radio with no display is better then a locked out radio with no display!

I don't think that it is a matter of a code to enter. If that were the case, then I would have had to enter a code when I reinstalled the radio or when I sent the radio out for repair the repair tech. would have needed my code. Also, there is no code in my records or with my owner's manual. It could be that you messed something up. That is why I wasn't going to mess with it. The guy I dealt with guaranteed that it could be fixed, and he even bought the special tool or whatever that he needed out of his own pocket. I trusted him enough based on internet reviews to send him a check with the radio, and if he were able to fix the radio then he was to cash the check. I figured for $89, and my wife and I out of a radio for almost two weeks at Thanksgiving, that the worst that could happen was either needing a new radio or out the $89. I needed the radio fixed A.S.A.P. and didn't feel like a couple more days of delay by sending him the check after the radio was fixed. Knock-on-wood, it still works great, and my advice, google search 'double-din' radio or visit www.elextronix.com. A new radio (nothing fancy) but with all the brackets/etc. can run as little as $99 with free ground shipping (at least when I was looking for a replacement before the holidays). How can you beat that? And, I think the black one I was interested in had an IPOD hookup. Compare that to the dealer wanting up to $600 for a new radio with one disc CD player.
