Ranger '95 XLT
so today i got bored and decided that i was going to find out how long it takes my truck to get to 60mph and i was not really happy wih the results. my ranger is a 1995 ext cab xlt 4x4 with the 4.0L v-6 and the time was 11.36 seconds. i myself do not think this is a good time but i want some other opinions what do you think is that a decent time or not

honestly, i'm sure you could shave time off of that with nothing more than practice. but yeah, that's slower than evolution.....

Honestly anwser. Yes, that is slow. Did you get an average? What mods if any?

Wait a minute - What size tires do you have? That could be one major problem in itself. (4X4 with big tires)

After trying this several times with my buddy, the best time I could come up with in my '98 5.0 AWD was just over 8.5 seconds.

I haven't done much too it... the exhaust probably hurts me on take-off. Its 2.5" duals. As for other things that might have effected my time, hopefully for the better, I had new plugs, the KKM CAI, and synthetic fluids. I didn't help to have my 220lb. buddy in the passenger seat and a full cargo bay of tools and other crap.

...I bet I could break the 7 second barrier.

well i have wrangler tiries 15 inch but there bald im getting new tires soon and i have a tool box that has about 300lbs of tools lol the next time that i do the 0-60 text ill take out the tool box and the subs and all the extra crap laying around the cab and no i have not done any mods to my truck but i eally dont need to be worring about my 0-60 time cause i am going to turn it into a off road machine but before i do that i am gonig to get a cold air intake new perfromance exhaust and supercharger then ill tell what my 0-60 time is i hope can get it too just under 7 seconds before i get a lift and mudd tires

Might be possible. I'm around 7.2 right now with three more pretty good mods left. Should be around 6 something when done but I'll need more traction.

95 = 4.0 ohv, 7 seconds is a pipe dream for a 4x4 ohv imo

Yeah, you're right. I assumed sohc. my bad.

Even w/ the sohc, anything less than 7 might be a test of
how quick you are with the stopwatch. Try it at a dragstrip
with the lights if you really want to be disappointed. Its been
a long time, but I remember quite well what a test it was to
go from 0 to 60 in 6 seconds.
I dont know if you guys have automatics or sticks but power
shifting heel & toe is the only way to get down the e.t. with
sticks. Properly donr it sounded a little like a gunshot.
And normally factory sticks are not happy with that
kind of treatment.

Sorry for the reality check

:salute:

I don't know how you can use the heel & toe shifting technique to power shift on a drag strip. That technique is used in sports car racing during braking while entering a corner. I may be crazy but I don't think using the brakes when shifting while accelerating on a drag strip would help improve times.

Yeah, you're right. I probably run a 25 sec 0-60 @ the track.

You are right of course, the technique I was refering to was not heel
& toe but the old trick of keeping the gas flat to the floor and pushing in the clutch just far enough to hang a shift while at the same time sliding the
ball of your foot off the clutch. The clutch then returns on its own with a satisfying bang and hopefully the trans and rear end are still intact.
Another trick with a motorcycle used to be shifting with the kill switch.
Same idea though the clutch wasnt used at all. It was supposed to
eliminate the clutch slipping while shifting. With our gang it lost popularity
when the transmissions started breaking with alarming regularity. Dont know
how if fared in the rest of the country. It did not work well with the old
Triumph transmissions.
