Welcome to the Forum.
I would think that if it had remote start you would have received the proper keyfob with the vehicle. If you select remote start in the menu, does it give you any options?

Peter
Sorry, forgot to quote you.

A quote isn't always necessary if you are replying to a post directly above.
I would think that the vehicle specs sheet is probably correct and perhaps the previous owner attempted to add the remote start feature. Hard to say for sure. If you want remote start, I'm guessing that you could follow directions in this thread including getting the correct fob and have the programming done.

Peter

Being an XLT you have the hood switch, dealer will need to activate remote start if it isn't already and cut/program the key though if you have two keys already you can get it cut elsewhere and program it yourself.
Hey sir, could you help shed light on my remote start question? The dealer doesn't want to program a 5 button key fob because the build sheet says Less Remote Start and therefore they believe it will not work. I can see the pin under the hood. Do you still offer the 5 button key fobs for sale that I could have cut and program myself?

Jason is no longer around.

Just to close out my question above: I bought an aftermarket 5 button key fob, had it cut by a locksmith and programmed it myself using my two existing keys and the remote start worked.
Thank you to all those that did this before me and contributed here.

Damn, sorry to hear that, seemed like a very knowledgeable fella. ☹️

The lights for any of the climate control stuff will not function during remote start. The items still work however. The seats may be tied into temperature even in the last user setting?

I still have more keys available :)
I have a 2018 explorer xlt. I bought 2 OEM remote start fob's. I called Arlington heights ford where I bought it new and was told if remote start didn't come with it, you cant do it.
I told the advisor thst I disagreed and asked if he could check my vin and get back to me...crickets
I have a friend at ford who has access to IDS, can somone familair please reply with the procedure to turn on remote start and marry the fob's. I have the factory installed hood switch.
Thank you so much, this has been a time vampire and extremely frustrating..Scott

Welcome to the Forum Scott.
Since you bought it new, did you not get the keyfobs with the remote start button? If it has remote start, then you can use the menu settings to active/deactivate the feature.

Peter

Peter,

I did not have remote start when I purchased the vehicle new, so no the 2 key fobs I received did not have remote start buttons.

I wrongly thought everything I needed except new remote start fob's was installed, just disabled in body components and IPC.

My xlt came with a hood switch which I know is part of the perimeter security system.

So frustrated that my dealer is unwilling to help me, so I went to youtube, right or wrong.

This guy shows the install of the
KN1Z-19A361-A module and how to enable everything via forscan in body control module and IPC.

Can anyone verify? My wife and daughter park in the garage while my explorer sits outside

Unfortunately, if the Explorer you bought did not come with the OEM remote start, then there is nothing that the dealer can do. They are not in the business of modifying vehicles. All this must be done aftermarket. It has come up several times in the forum. Please report back when you get it figured out and operating. Thanks, Scott and good luck.

Peter
