Sorry, forgot to quote you.Welcome to the Forum.
I would think that if it had remote start you would have received the proper keyfob with the vehicle. If you select remote start in the menu, does it give you any options?

Hey sir, could you help shed light on my remote start question? The dealer doesn't want to program a 5 button key fob because the build sheet says Less Remote Start and therefore they believe it will not work. I can see the pin under the hood. Do you still offer the 5 button key fobs for sale that I could have cut and program myself?Being an XLT you have the hood switch, dealer will need to activate remote start if it isn't already and cut/program the key though if you have two keys already you can get it cut elsewhere and program it yourself.

Sadly, he passed away.Where did he go? Seems like he was a posting machine in 2022 then just stopped.
I have a 2018 explorer xlt. I bought 2 OEM remote start fob's. I called Arlington heights ford where I bought it new and was told if remote start didn't come with it, you cant do it.The lights for any of the climate control stuff will not function during remote start. The items still work however. The seats may be tied into temperature even in the last user setting?
I still have more keys available![]()
Peter,
I did not have remote start when I purchased the vehicle new, so no the 2 key fobs I received did not have remote start buttons.
I wrongly thought everything I needed except new remote start fob's was installed, just disabled in body components and IPC.
My xlt came with a hood switch which I know is part of the perimeter security system.
Unfortunately, if the Explorer you bought did not come with the OEM remote start, then there is nothing that the dealer can do. They are not in the business of modifying vehicles. All this must be done aftermarket. It has come up several times in the forum. Please report back when you get it figured out and operating. Thanks, Scott and good luck.So frustrated that my dealer is unwilling to help me, so I went to youtube, right or wrong.
