Removing heat shields from exhaust manifold?

I did a search and didn't find anything. I have a crack in the exhaust manifold and want to see how big it is but I can't see how to remove the heat shield without destroying it. Anyone know how?

There are some thin metal straps kind of like zip ties holding them together--snip them and the shields will fall off.
