reprogramming keyless entry

Can anyone tell me how to reprogram the keyless entry pad on the drivers door? I bought the truck used from the dealer and they keep giving me the run around. They also didnt give me a remote, but I am going to get one and program it myself.

You need the OEM code, look for it inside of the jack compartment. Open that panel, and look forward over the LR wheelwell. There is an electrical box there with a sticker on the side, white with black lettering. That is the one OEM five digit code.

You can enter the OEM code, then a "1", and then enter the five digit code that you prefer. Both codes will work then, or until battery power is lost. You can buy a remote anywhere(eBay) and program it. Get an owner's manual(eBay), all instructions are in there. Good luck,

Disconnecting the battery will do nothing to either code.

Ditto. The door codes are not affected by power outages. You can store up to 8 codes. To delete them, an NGS tester must be connected to access the PATS to change or delete them.

Sorry, you are indeed mistaken.

Al you sure seem to delight in finding fault. You might be more tactful, and actually be right when you do criticize. My added code has always been lost(battery out) in all of the keyless entry Fords that I've owned. I haven't had a power loss in either of my trucks yet, but all of my Mark VII's do. Enjoy yourself at my expense Al.

It was YOU who said tha we were wrong about the codes.

The codes are NOT erased; I do know this for a fact. I am sorry that you are mistaken. It would make no sense to have them vanish on power loss.

FYI, I just double-checked... for the 98 model year, you CAN delete the personal code yourself. I may be confusing the 8-code/NGS to delete setup with my F-150.

At any rate, it's in the owner's manual. I programmed my personal code nine years ago. The battery has been replaced twice, and disconnected at least 20 other times. I've yet to reprogram it.

2nd code will be lost

The 2nd code gets wiped when the battery is disconnected for an extended period, 20 min was just not long enough, I had to reprogram my 2nd code abfter having some engine work and the battery was disconnected for well over a week.

No it does not. Once programmed, the codes can only be erased with an NGS tester connected to the vehicle.

so chaning the code will do nothing to deter my brother from stealing change out of my truck bc the oem code will still be active unless i take it to ford and they hook up the NGS tester after they told me that they had no way of chaning or deleting the oem code? hmm.

Replace the RAP module to change the perminant code.

The factory code cannot be changed unless you physically swap out the RAP module located in the jack storage compartment. (Pics in my gallery linked in my signature line). Additional programmed codes can only be deleted by using an NGS tester. You will not be able to prevent your brother from stealing your change unless you:
a) change out the RAP module. check www.car-part.com for parts.
b) stop leaving change in your car.
c) beat your brother senseless for entering your vehicle. (not recommended, but highly effective)

Be sure to make note of the 5 digit code number on the sticker on the new RAP module ( I put it in a notebook with passwords and codes and stored it in my safe ). This was needed to program a new custom keypad entry code ( note: the factory code will also still work ).

so.. replacing the rap module wont help me keep my change either since the original factory 5 digit keyless entry code still works?
