isnt the driveline on the wrong side?

jefe was going to do it but then decided against it. basically a rubicon 44 is a dana 30 with a dana 44 center section and then a fancy air locker. Unless you got a good deal on it I think there are better axles out there to do a swap out there with.

the rubi "d44" is a hybrid...not all that great. I THINK i has a d44 inner section, and d30 outers, and smaller shafts, may be other way around though :D

it replaces teh weak components of the 30 and calls it a 44 becasue it uses a slightly larger axle tube and a D44 center section.

It can be a nice axle with a little $$ put into it (like almost every other axle). I was reading on a Heep site that most of the Rubicon guys replace the outer shafts with aftermarkets if they are going to run 35+. It's also a LP front axle. It comes with 4.11 "thick D44 gears" but 4.11s won't do much with 35s+ (sure don't wanna put any more stress on that A4LD). An EB front axle would be much simpler, and also cheaper. The front Rubicon d44's aren't cheap cuz every Jeeper wants a "Dana 44" that's bolt in. My buddy is currently looking for one, and around here the front and rear package is ~2k.

Bummer! I can't for the life of me locate an affordable HPdana 44!!!

It will get harder and harder to find that axle too :) but they are still out there....

Price would detur me from this, unless one fell in my lap (the rubi front) It sure would make it easier to run a long travel kit though instead of dealing with the Ford wedge radius arms...

Here's a thought!
Why not find a built D30 (you can get one with aftermarket axles, u-joint, gears and lockers for next to nothing) and install it using a setup similar to Clint (HVAC Man). Once the installation and fine tuning is done you can run the D30 until it breaks and then replace it with a custom D44 (or 60). Just order one setup to bolt in to whatever Jeep your D30 came from. Sure it isn't as cheap as installing a EB or narrowed HP44, but with this method you could setup and work out all the bugs without having to invest in new rear axle shafts, wheels, etc...

I've looked but to no avail.

CA there are like no vintage 4x4 parts anywhere. Check classifieds :)
Get a F-250 D44 and cut it down then.

In CO there are lots and lots, hahaha. :)

Huh?

there's probably 3 in the local p-n-p - and they just had their half price weekend, so you probably could of picked up a complete, ford hp d44 for about $200.

Patience Grass Hopper.

There will be more 1/2 off sales, at least 1 more between now and the end of the year. They occur about every 2 months.
