I don't know if BTF still offers it but they also have an exposed weld version of their diff covers for $115.

 I was wondering how long it would take for some TRSer to chime in and start pushing those ugly diff covers...

And whom might that be?

I like the crane :)
the Warn guard looks to be the best thought out and constructed guard for protecting the stock cover, plus the price is good and Warn stuff is always stout.
Man some of those are like ugly stepchildren, how many welds and bars and plates do you need? I personally just want one that wont break if I reverse into a boulder, one that wont peel off if I drag the diff over a rock, and one that doesnt stick out 14" with a bunch of rock grabbing bars.
the Crane gets my vote, I am gonna try to get one of those from my friend, but they are PRICEY Of course the SVO style covers with the bearing supports are nice too, especially with a ARB locker int he diff.....hmmm

I had one of their tranny pans for my A4LD, very good product, very good customer support, very nice people to deal with, however that cover pictured may be stronger then stock, but its not built for 4x4ing if you ask me, cast aluminum. Its made for additional capacity and cooling.

that might do good if it had some support up near the pinion... i could see that thing folding up first time i taped a rock.

And on the TRS diff cover it sucks out loud. It sticks off the rear diff about 5" and i dont wannat be ripping it off when i come down on a rock and that thing is the only thing holding me up. And who would pay that much for a box welded to a ring???

I would go for a complete cover rather than a rock ring, etc. Having the stock cover under a rock ring not only makes for difficulty installing, but is usually difficult to keep from leaking without loads of RTV as the ring doesn't match the cover exactly.

My choices would be the BTF cover (or something similar) or the SVO girdle if you don't mind spending a little more.

:D
Pretty ones are for the mall.

The TRS unit looks like this, is not stamped, is noticably thicker than the ones above, and comes in black or silver.

And if you did whack it on a rock (doubtful), odds are pretty good the rock will break first. I've seen one and held it in my own formerly nicotine stained fingers.
I wasn't trying to push it real hard here but if certain people with personal problems with certain other people are going to bash a good product at a good price, I'll put up a pic.

I e-maild BTF and they said they would build me a cover with exposed welds for a little cheaper. I just noticed that Purple Cranium raised there prices  Well I think that answers which I will buy!

It has nothing to do with "personal problems"(I don't even know the guy who made them). They are too big; if they were smaller (slimmer) they would be ok I guess. The thing sticks out like 4" more than a stock one! This was discussed over on Pirate also and the same thing was said, so I guess there are lots of people out there with "personal problems" associated with this cover.
By the way did you get permission from Rick to advertise the product here? I'm sure FST (who is a sponsor here) can make something much better if asked.
If I was getting one I would fork out an extra $9 and get the BTF one. But that TRS one DOES come in different colors...

Just ordered the BTF cover with exposed welds. They are builing it for me and will ship out friday ;) Paid 118.99 + shipping

Actually just bought the Crane High Clearance (CHC) cover for the EB Dana 44 that's gonna replace the IFS under my front-end some time soon. That thing is STOUT!!! (Only wish it had a drain hole.) Things I really like about this CHC cover are that (1) it is SOLID as hell - probably weights 8lbs on its own, (2) it holds more fluid and will keep things cooler and (3) its designed to slide over obstacles without breaking, bending, hanging up or ripping away from the housing. Ordered mine from 4x4rockshop.com b/c they have a 10% and FREE shipping deal. Check out this review from Rockcrawler.com: http://www.rockcrawler.com/techreports/crane_diff_covers/index.asp.

Also getting the TA Diff Cover Girdle for my rear 8.8. It's pretty much the same thing as the Currie pictured above, but TA actually mfgs those that are labeled & sold as the Ford Racing / SVO axle girdle. Probably going to pick that up from completeoffroad.com.

Hope this helps!
