Second alternator??

I am considering using my newly acquired 1994 explorer for my work. It would involve making it capable of keeping six six volt deep cycle batteries charged sufficiently to operate a 12,000 watt power inverter which I will use to operate several different tools, pumps and other items deep in the woods setting up homesteads which are completely off grid. I don't think an isolator using the stock alternator will work very well. Is there a way to add a second alternator to this thing? I would not be opposed to deleting the a/c compressor to facilitate this. Mechman sells a 400 amp alternator that should do the truck. Any considerations I should be aware of?

sounds like a plan! remove ac comporessor, fabricate mount for alternator keeping correct serpentine pulley in position. Wire up additional alternator and your battery charging system.

what type of 6 volts? glass matt? lithium? or lead acid? just curious! My homestead and shop is completely off grid, we have a pretty large setup

This setup will be for my rig to help people get their homesteads established. A mobile shop type thing. I'm going to use lead acid trojan batteries. I've always had good luck with them. The glass mat ones are no bueno for me. I bought six of them once and within a week five of them failed.

I'm running renogy glass matts, 16 of them, so far so good!
I have a 48 volt system
I also have a smaller bank of 8 battle born lithiums in a 24v system
The lithium, batteries are the ones I had issues with at first, but battle born made upgrades and replaced my first 8 under warranty!

Lead acid works too, they just take longer to charge and do not like the cold temps (shop is kept at 54 degrees min)

Mechman sells a 400 amp alternator that should do the truck. Any considerations I should be aware of?

About all I can add is that I have two Mechman alternators. Excellent quality. Unfortunately they stopped making these alternators with the Mopar case.
