Secondary Transmission Filter Installed (Feedback)

Just installed a larger cooler than the factory auxiliary. I got one from a salvage yard that came from an F-350 with a V10. I installed an auxiliary filter because of what I've read in this thread. Also, even though I flushed the salvage cooler very well, I feel better knowing there is a filter right after it to catch anything that didn't come out of the cooler when I flushed it. I got lucky in that there was a lot of extra space on the bracket holding my grill guard so I mounted the filter to that. This put the filter right in the bumper cover, tucked up nice and high but easy to get to.
Anxious to see how it all performs when I move to Phoenix July 1.

This thread is an oldie but a goodie. Wonder if Hank (thread starter) is still around?

Magnefine now manufactures their filter with a steel case, so I picked one up and installed
it in 'Mr Blue', a 2000 Sport with about 167K miles on it now. I ordered a Derale fitting kit which
allowed me to plumb in the filter without cutting a metal line. The fittings simply screwed into the
top radiator flare fittings and the Magnefine connects to them with short lengths of rubber hose.
There's room for the filter between the battery and the A/C plumbing, in full view to easily check
for leaks, etc. just by raising the hood. The Magnefine has a magnet to trap ferrous particles and
residue.

The transmission output pressure port is the lower, more forward one on the side of the trans, am
I correct? Making the higher port the return? Just wanting to confirm the flow direction is correct.

Yes, that is correct. Could you post a photo or a link for the new design filter?

Thanks for confirming the ATF flow direction.
The old leaky plastic Magnefines are gone now, replaced with the
metal cased ones. They look to be high quality and are made in USA.

I was wrong about the adapter fittings being Derale brand. They're actually a
Hayden "Service Kit #395", containing (2) 3/8" barbed adapters to screw into the
flared fittings on the radiator.

(Derale sells the fittings too, but the threads are too short for our Explorers;
I suspect they may fit the F150 trucks.)
