Shift Kit/Enhancer Installed

My question was about mounting the "hot" box under the hoodm bot the switch. Reason, I do not want any extra heat source inside.

Alec answered the question.

The reason your 'tranny' gets loud when you downshift, it is because your RPMs are skyrocketing when you shift down. The gear isn't a tall as the one before, so it has to adjust.

I can downshift going like 50 into 2nd and it will lock the tires and then rev hard.

I dunno why the pedal shudders, my guess is that the ABS system is trying to prevent wheel lock, so it uses a lot of prace very quickly to und the lock up

i'm talking about shifting down when coming to a stop... like as your rpms are dropping. the increased pressure makes it go "CLUNK", you can feel the gear hit, and the pedal shudders at the same time

check ur fluid level

this sounds great, but i can't say enough good things about my recently installed baumann kit. it shifts in a blink (stage three) and takes off faster from any speed (due to quicker downshifting). its not expensive (i got mine for 70) and i'm sure it makes a much bigger difference than the electronic one.

man, i really wish i had known about the baumann one before i got the Electric one. I like stuff that is mechanical much more than electrical...if mechanical, it is possible that i would know how exactly it works, if it is electric, i have no clue...

I still wanna get that bauman too...sounds cool

Didn't you buy yours off of someone on this board though? so you prolly got it cheaper than we would...

yeah, but full retail is still like 150 or something and it makes an incredible difference. my truck has a much better feel to it after the install in every way. l

Do they make this for the 4.0 ohv v6?

Is there a reason you can't use this on 98-01. Transmission is still the same, just minus a couple vacuum tubes I think....

you can install an electronic one AND a mechanical shift kit in your transmission, i believe they will both help

yuppers :) And a chip, too! :bounce:

hey expo

hey man i havent seen you around for a while. good to see you back. well man i see that the mechanical shift kit cost only about 70 bucks but how much would it cost to get installed?

yeah, i have hypertech shift tuning as well as the baumann. there's no problem there! as for install, its not hard to do yourself (you could do it in a few hours in your garage if you wanted) but with the tranny i like to have stuff done by a pro so i bought my boy a case of mich golden and had it thrown in after hours. i think he said that he would have normally charged 2 hours of labor and the price of a new filter, and the fluid (so around $200 should get it done.

rocket- thanks for saying a nice thing! however, i've been here, where have you been???

oh, one more thing- the full retail price from baumann is 170 for the kit. i bought mine from someone here who's dad wouldn't let him install it so i got a swingin deal. trust me though this is the best mod i've done so far! it is well worth the money. the improvement for the dollar is greater even than with the e-303.

The switch isn't what gets hot, it is the box located further down the wire that they are referring to that controlls the settings.

Oh, I see now. I always had mine hidden under the cupholders in the center console, so I never knew. Since I've had some extended driving trips recently, I would have known if it got that hot since the wires in the console still looked good.

cool. i just havent seen you around lately. i have not been on here as much as before because i am overseas right now, but i didnt see too many replies to any of your threads. hehe. yep my project is going to happen in decemberm right when i get back. i have saved about $5000 up while over here and am probably going to have another $3000 before i leave here in the next month and a half. i am thinking that i will most likely pu all but $2500 of that into my car. i am getting a new viper 500 or something like that security system and also putting my sound system in there. then i am going to get serious on the engine. the 347 project is still up in the air whether i am going to do that or just get a supercharger. of course the custom exhaust intake and other goodies go with both. but i am still just debating the power adding abilities, cost, and ease of install of both. i will figure it all out when i get back here soon i suppose.

Ok....my tranny code is D on my 98XLT 4.0 SOHC . Would the electrivc B&M 70381
work with my car ok??

i couldn't find my tranny code. but it worked, lol. I think it works with almost all explorer transmissions

I looked at my door jam sticker. There's a "TR" w/ a T under it. Is this the Trans Code? What is trans code T? Can I use the B&M thing? From reading this thread, I think I'm the only one here w/ a "T". What gives? or am I looking in the wrong place? Thanx much,

got the kit...

I just picked up this "electronic shift kit" at advance but on the back of the package it says 95-97 ford explorer. I have a 98... is that going to be a problem?
