Some moron poured soda on my car while I was at work, and now it is dried and really really sticky. I tried getting it off with my finger nail and it was like gum. I know this cant be good for my paint, so how do i get it off?

A good wash should do the trick. Soda is very acidic, hope your paint is ok.

Umm, have you tried soap and water..?

EDIT: Damn too slow :D

Nope I havent tried anything. I live at a dorm so i dont have a hose availiable. I was just wondering if there was any special trick. Thanks aldive.

gum on my carpets!

On another related topic, which i dont deem worthy of its own thread, how do you get gum out of your carpets?? Some @$$hole mechanics, the sames ones that tried to screw me out of a Power steering job (see thread "im screwed plz help!!"), must have gotten angry and put gum on my carpets. Either that or it fell out of their mouths while drooling. But either way theirs a big clob of white gum on my black floormats, right near the brake pedal, and i cant get it out.

Ask your wives, i know there must be some secret to it.

Thanks,
later

That works on fresh gum. How long has the gum been there?

I remember my neighbor put some blue bubblegum on my driveway once. It is as hard as a rock and still there

There has to be a spray and wash around your place, get a bucket full of water in your bathroom, there is plenty of places to get some water from the dorm.

Get a can of WD40, and spray the sode area. Let it sit for a minute, and it will wipe right off. Of course you will have to use soap and water to get the greasy WD40 off, but that is cake.

It also take road tar off as well.

A bucket full of hot water from the dorm, dish soap and sponge from any supermarket. Wash the area real good then use some compound wax on the spot. Depending on how long it's been on your X with the sun baking it in will depend on how bad the paint has been stained. Soda is VERY acidic. I've always used Coke to break up the build-up on my battery terminals.

How long has the gum been there? I've used regular old carpet cleaner(Woolite: Heavy Traffic) to get gum out of my carpet. That or you could try the old Peanut Butter method.

a good thing to get gum off could be mainase (sp?) that is very greasy and should break down the gum base. you would have to let it sit for a little while and rub it in good. if that doesn't work, freeze it with some ice and it should break appart. that is also a PITA. it depends how long the gum has been there also and how deeply embedded it is.

I AGREE WD-40 WILL GET SODA AND ALMOST ANY THING ELSE OFF YOUR PAINT WITHOUT DAMAGE

Mayonnaise gets gum out of hair, I wouldnt put it in your carpets. Then instead of gum, you'll have carpets full of mayonnaise. First summer day parked and you'll pass out when you open the door,

"GOO GONE" gets gum out even better than lighter fluid.

well you could allways get the shop to replace the floor mats???

these two b*tches at my school once splattered an egg on my car. It was there maybe all of 6 hours before I washed it off (at night mind you). I still have stains to this day from it. Wash it ASAP!!!!!! then put wax on it ASAP!!!!!
