Is there a solid tranny mount that fits on our trucks? Since my sas, i have torn two rubber tranny mounts in half and its getting old. Any help would be appreciatted in finding one.
Try Autofab.com, I bought one of their urethane mounts and they are made very well. I doubt you'll have any problems with it. I've got the 5r55e tranny so you'll have to check and see if they got one for yours.
Just checked the Autofab website and nothing is listed for Explorer V8 tranny's but I'd call them and ask, you never know. They could probably make one for you, after all fab is part of their name
the first time it tore was becuase of a 180k old mount that had more slop in it than Paris hilton. So i got one from auto suck, and it looked gimpy as hell. When i let down the case and tranny it squished it good.
Anyways, i ordered a lakewood poly-urethane with an interlocking feature to prevent seperation. Its for a mustang with an AOD tranny so it should fit our 4r70w's.
The V8/4R70W trans mount is very wimpy, even with the stock AWD transfer case. It looks like a compromise to make the big transmission fit with the V6 crossmember. Swap to the heavier BW4406 transfer case and go offroad and the situation gets that much worse.
I shortened the height of the center of the trans crossmember by just over an inch and substituted a trans mount from a 92 F150 V8 4x4. The crossmember has plenty of height left for strength and the F150 mount is designed for a V8 4x4 application. The only other mod necessary was the substitution of 2 flat head bolts in the extension housing to clear the mount.
Below is the stock 99 Ex 5.0 mount compared to the 1992 5.0 F-series 4x4.
IIRC, the F150 mount is about 1 1/16" taller than the 5.0 Explorer mount. To compensate and not disturb the driveline angles, I cut a matching amount from the center of the crossmember (it has a tall hump in the center where the mount bolts on). Then the plate cut from the top was trimmed to fit and welded back in at the new height.
At the transmission pad, the base of the wider F150 mount interferes with 2 of the hex bolt heads that attach the extension housing to the transmission. It was easy enough to remove them, countersink the holes and substitute flathead bolts.
This was done on a Ranger but should also apply to a Gen2 Explorer.
Well the poly mount was the wrong one argh. I ordered the premuim autozone one and it looks like the f-150 pictured and comes with a lifetime warrenty. It'll be at the store tomorrow.

I guess your 3" body lift will keep the transmission from hitting the floor plan. Assuming that the mount is considerably taller like mine was, I would be concerned that jacking up the back of the transmission might change the driveline angles and cause vibration at highway speeds.

Napa has OEM style V8 mounts for $18
Until I can fab something else Ill keep running these POS for $18 a pop
the 4406 t case is a huge SOB, it will wear that rubber mount out in no time flat
On my BII I have an Autofab V6 mount, I modded it to fit the 4r70w, but its way too tall for the V8 crossmember without mods
