Something w/ rabbits. 72.5 pages of BS

Holy crap... I just read through this whole thing, and I think this is the most rediculous thing I've seen yet out of this site --- looks cool! If I'm reading it right, though, you're whacking off the body behind the rear doors and dropping it onto a new frame... so where do you plan to put the rear axle? I'm sure this'll be a rediculously capable wheeler, but I can't seem to picture the back of the beast.

As awesome as it is, your neighbors must look out their windows and go "WTF is that crazy guy with the huge truck doing THIS time?!"

The rear axle will be placed about here:

As a design update, for the past week or so I've been pondering about the front design and I think I've came up with something I'm happy with -- simple and hopefully effective:
front_concept2.jpg

I'll have to do something similar to the back cauz I'm still not too terribly happy with it -- its a bit too messy and the hardest part is juggling the rear passenger's space, panhard bar support, the three parallel links, and room for a spare tire.

Looks like it's going to turn out awesome! Thanks for the explanation.

What program are you using?? looks good

Maya -- its what I've been using since the first SAS thread. Its not an engineering software and its used more often in graphics for movies and stuff (think Pixar).

Ahh gotcha...thats why I didn't know what it was. For your panhard bars are the mounted on the same side of the frame or opposite? I can't tell for sure from your diagram.

They're mounted on the same side -- and I'm trying to keep that junx (and the roll axis) just a bit higher than the height of the center of gravity so I can put more weight on the axle thats being stuffed. If the links had enough articulation, that would mean that the chassis/body can roll over onto the tires and the vehicle will still be standing on all four tires <-- crazeeey.

So as you all know, globalism is a double edged sword. BUT (!!), the flat sides of that same sword can sometimes bring great things! I ordered a set of consumables for the Cut40 plasma cutter late Sunday night and the package made its way all the way from China and was at my doorstep this afternoon (Thursday)!

To quote Nic Cage's character in Family Man: mmm, superb .. superb .

Made some stands from the old rock sliders and some tubes (yeah I know, needs "triangulation"!). They're only there to support the body -- once the new chassis is in, the vehicle will be supported on those.
body_supported.jpg

The front was cake to lower onto the stands since all I had to do was release some pressure from the air shocks. But the back had to be sliced -- monoleaves!!

I left the main leaves untouched for now cauz I still have to get under the vehicle to check everything is disconnected before the suspension is relieved and the old chassis drops away.

Hahaha.. IZ you so cahrazy.

Hahaha.. IZ you so cahrazy.
Love you too Section!! hugs and kisses! xoxoxo!

you are just too torch happy, why not lower air in the tires or even take the wheels off? We're on page 13 and the fun is just starting!!!!!!
I did let most of the air out (they are at around 4PSI now). But I didnt want to take them all the way to zero cauz the bead might pop and putting air in them after that is quite the workout.

EDIT -- as for the page number, ahah yeah I know. It'll probably be like in the 60s by the time its moving on its own again :).

Well today was hell -- freaking hot. Kept drying up and stopped sweating -- also got a mild headache near the end. Tomorrow is supposed to be worse so I'm not sure if I'll be building the new chassis this weekend. Well anyways, onto the pics:

Front shocks to zero PSI:

Then rear suspension was supported with the jack and a rect. tube:

Rear leaves cut:

Rear section removed:

Countered the missing rear with a missing front:

Then more rear stuff:

A few more smaller pieces and the main driver's side rail came out:

Then followed by the passenger's side:

And finally no more chassis:

I bet it was scary cutting the frame out while being under there with it??

No going back now!!

...I want a plasma cutter...:D...

Yeah it was a bit scary but I just had to keep telling myself that as long as I dont touch the body and the stands that support it, then I should be good. Some of the parts crashed down pretty good due to its weight and that got really scary cauz you never know which way they are going to rotate and could knock the stands or something.

As for the plasma cutter, its been a really great tool cauz with a reciprocating saw, you had to support it which means you have to be on your back or under the vehicle to make the cut. With the plasma cutter, you just point and shoot.

:popcorn:I dont know what to say:crazy:

Just kidding go to work you mad surgon.:D

:popcorn:I dont know what to say:crazy:
You can say: Relax, dont do it, when you want to go to it ... :)

I didnt get much done today cauz of the heat heat heat!
But I did cut the firewall/floor.
hello_engine.jpg

Next step is to move the engine back, build the new chassis and install.

Why don't you go mid-engine? That would be bad ace. :p:

I guess by definition it will be a mid engine since "mid" just means anywhere between the two axles. But the thing is moving back maybe 15 inches soo I guess that is mid-engine. :)
