Sound after sitting a while

We ride a ferry a lot, its impossible to sleep in the ST because these clicks and clunks occur the entire time we’re in there. Just start to doze and clickety-clack.

I’m sorry to see “that’s normal” as it’s a maddening nuisance but I’m also glad to be able to call out the haters that trashed me for complaining about just this issue.

Some of these cars were just not finished at the factory or the installers are all stoned because there are entirely too many faults and under-engineered junk on a lot of these cars. It seems they have a very high rate of substandard parts and very slapdash installations.
“Call out the haters” because you’re wrong and the vehicle is doing exactly what it was built to do?

The latest models shortcomings are engineering and supply chain issues, it’s not because their line workers are stoned. The line workers have zero to do with the setup and install of the assembly lines.

I would argue that line works have a major impact on quality as well. If they do not say anything when (if they even care to pay attention) they see something wrong plays a major role. When oddly during negotiations enough people are magically sick all at once that the plant shuys down because there are not enough people at work, has impacts as well.

My views on this come from having been in a manufacturing union and every day being told by the union leaders and stewards that I should not care about this company or product because this company does not care about you. Those views and mindsets do not help quality or production.

Also in defense of the other person's comments....

I definitely am not defending unions. They are garbage, and after being an outside contractor at dozens of Union sites, I’d never work for one. Unions have LONG outstayed their usefulness.

If you plan to nap in your vehicle, I believe that putting the fob in the very back of the cargo area will prevent it from being recognized. Otherwise, the vehicle will not completely shut down. Not saying it still won't make some noises.

Peter

oops. The haters are on another site. Sorry.

I sent my 2021 Ford Explorer to dealer to check the noise. They told me that noise is normal and only because the ABS pump self check. They said the engine is off but the computer is still working in the background. The ABS pump self check randomly every day. Also they mentioned that the battery will be low if the car is parking after long time. That is because the ABS pump self check every day.

Welcome to the Forum J L.
As mentioned before, it's perfectly normal regarding the noises. Thank you for mentioning the ABS self-check. On the 5th gen Explorer it usually does the self-check when you start up and begin driving.

It doesn’t complete the check at daily intervals. You trigger the self test, which I think happens AFTER the car is running.

I have been told that it will do self check when engine off. I asked the service manager how often the ABS pump self check and he said it will do randomly. I said that I have my nap in the car every day and that noise often wake me up like a clock alarm. The guy said maybe the designer didn’t consider people who will sleep in the car.

It makes no sense that it would randomly do a check. That’s not how it works. There’s no logic to it. If it had to do it with the engine off, it’d be triggered by you getting in the vehicle, or something of the sort.

On mine, the loudest noise is when I open the driver's door although it does make more subtle random noises when parked.

When I open the door and sitting for a while, I can hear 2-3 times continuously noise. If the vehicle is locked, sometimes when I get close to it I will hear slightly noise but only occurs once in a period time. I recorded a video about the noise but no idea how to post

It coming to life when you approach, or open a door makes perfect sense. It doing random ABS checks and running the battery down, does not.

The vehicle makes noises with no intervention and no keyfob around.

Do you know why you can open your app and see things like oil life, location, tire pressure, and etc. It is because the vehicle does self checks. That is part of being a smart/connected vehicle.

I’m sure it’s things mostly timing out. Why would it do random ABS checks to the point it drains the battery?

These are stored data. It’s not checking oil life 6 hours after you exit the vehicle.

Not always true. There are times when I open my app and the last update time is sooner than the last time I drove it. Also if you haven't started your vehicle in couple of days your app will tell you it can not do up dates to conserve battery. I have found that out when on vacation and randomly checking to make sure no one stole my truck out of the driveway.

Also, it will do refreshes for your vehicle health reports.
