The 1.5" tubes are on the way to my house. Hopefully I have them by Wednesday for me to start cutting.

I also got some more progress on my X.

I got the Front Drivers Door modified to fit the 2nd Gen connector in there.

I also got about 1/4 of the body wiring done.

Ryan

Very good, that door is good and thick there isn't it? That was no fun with a drill and a jigsaw. Some air tools would be the best way to make that hole. The hole in the floor was easy after marking it. You are plugging away at it. Do you plan to do the frame wiring, the harness goes between the frame and the fuel tank?

I am using 100% of the `97 wiring.

Another slight difference between the `92 doors and door jamb and the `97 is the dome light switch. First Gens, and just about EVERY CAR BEFORE it, had a simple button in the door jamb to sense when the door was closed or open. Ford, in their infinite wisdom thought it would be better if they reinvented the wheel, and went to a similar set-up, but instead of it mounted in the door jamb, they mounted it on the door latch IN the door. So I also have to swap out all the door latches in the process.

Ryan

Yes, I also swapped all of the door latches, door handles(painted), but kept the window and lock motors as spares.

Curious, how does your LF window roll down? Mine has a drag on it about 2" from the top that often stops the glass. It started long ago, but only in cold Winter. Now it only works well in hot temperatures. I think that the window track is pinched somewhere there, and I think it may be rust in the metal track itself. I need to change the glass anyway for scratches, so I plan to change that channel section also. It's about a $80 part, it has the whole top rubber section on it.

wow you guys are nuts!!
:)

I thought I was crazy making 240 something solders, now I know the alternative and I like my way! LOL

240, I only had to mess with about five wire connections. My headliner rear wires differed from the 97 hatch harness slightly. Directly swapping the wires wasn't that hard, having all of the parts disassembled anyway.

sure it wasnt! LOL and hacking the doors, and the firewall for the heater box, and converting to the new vacuum HVAC, LOL my way is still easier IMO LOL and I am totally kidding, any way you can get the sucker in there and running = at the end of it all the work, hours, muscle pains, blood, drained account, was "no biggie" because now it WORKS!!

Yes, LOL, I'm not pointing fingers. I'm laughing literally because there are so many ways to get the job done. Most of it is fun beyond the obvious and surprise issues. Ryan will be happy with it I'm sure, I wouldn't change much of mine. If I had known how long I would spend on it, I would have spent more time to save the 93 front end. I would have cut up the two radiator supports and made the 93 parts bolt back onto the 99 clip. It's fine either way.

BINGO and people wonder why there is no one single post they can go to that tells them how to put a V8 into their truck

EVERY SINGLE ONE IS DIFFERENT

I have seen enough conversions to know there are is more then one way to skin a cat

EXHAUST TUBES CAME IN!!!

Okay....

So you guys know I have my doors shaved, right?...

In the past few years I have locked myself out of my car a few times....I don't have a manual override button anywhere....I am always afraid of people finding the location of it, and getting in my X.

Well, I have figured out how I am going to make my car accessible if I lock the keys in...I am going to use the Keypad from the`97 to trigger the door release solenoid! Even if someone FINDS it, they have to know the code. And there is no way to break it open, and 'hot-wire' it to gain access.

Ryan

Awesome idea!!

But where could you hide it without it being to... weird? I'm thinking and possibly under the side or rear bumper or something?

Hi , cool thread.

Don't want to be a downer or anything but wouldn't it have been easier to simply add the body panels from the 92 onto the 97? Rather then completely disabling both cars and upgrading the 92? That is what our going for right? The old 92 looks with the newer 97 mechanics?

Because he loves his 92 is the simple answer. He's put a lot of time and money into upgrading it, a lot of which wouldn't transfer over to the 97, which was wrecked bad enough that it would never be right, on top of having a salvage title. A lot of us on here have done things that don't make sense to anyone else, but it's what makes us happy.

techieman....THANK YOU!...

The `92 has been in my family since new. It was my aunt's Explorer. She used to drive me EVERYWHERE in it. She even drove me to my first Regional SpeedSkating competition in 1995...later on at Nationals I took 5th place.

When I was younger I had an S-10 that I customized in much the same way. My aunt REALLY liked my S-10. She used to ride in it with me.

My aunt passed away at the age of 49. She left the Explorer to my sister. After a couple of years my sister sold it to me.

I literally have over a thousand hours into working on that Explorer. It would take a LOT to get me to get rid of it.

The `97 I bought was WAY TOO FAR GONE to even attempt the swap that was described.

Ryan

ah ok

I'll admit , I have spent hours waxing my explorer despite the fact its raining outside and it'll just get dirty after I drive it next. lol

Ryan, why not put it in the LF door so it looks OEM correct? I did that with the 99 pad in my 91 door? It plugs right into the door wiring as well. If you have to hide it, then you are laying on the ground. How about in the area behind/below the tail lights?

could you hide it behind the gas filler door?

I know how I'm doing it....I just won't say yet.
