SVT Explorer

Gear down big shifter...

Let's not worry about what you think of what he wants to do to his truck. Let's also get this thread back on track to what he wants to do instead of comparing reliability of vehicles. That's a whole other thread.

I'll start deleting anything that is off topic. ;)

You dont build an SVT you buy an SVT then build off of that. Dont put a name on something its not.

I spent like 14 hours making those gage faces in autocad, I personalized my gages with a SVT emblem and a F-racing emblem

I already have many Ford racing partrs on the BII, so its okay......but you are saying you want me to remove my SVT emblem?! hahaha I like it
I wonder if there are any SVT parts I can get for my BII ,then it would be more "legit" I guess....

I thought about the engine swap and tranny swap this past summer but then realize that it was easier just to buy a pick-up with a 302 or 351 already in it. I am just trying to make this truck my play truck for when I graduate from school. Then after I graduate I am going to buy something along the lines of the new Ford Diesel they released in the 08 model f-250s. The explorer will stay with me the rest of my life and hopefully be really nice and perfect when I eventually have a family and my son can drive it. I think I am officially going to go with the 4.10 swap. Now I am thinking along the lines of putting a posi back there while I'm at it. I can't go too big on the lift or state farm will cost me an arm and a leg.

As for the motor itself.....its a 1991 explorer with 130k on it. People where I live didn't know a Ford Explorer could run like mine does.

Shoot man, my 98 Exploder (SOHC Auto) has just a hair under 190k on it without an issue at all and my sisters 96 Exploder (4.0l OHV 5 speed, I want to buy hers from her when she is done wiht it and make it into a trail truck)has 165k has some intermitten problems but nothing major.

state farm doesnt need to know about your lift :)
You might be able to find a 8.8 rear with LS and 4.10 gears, a bonus is the 95+ explorer disc brakes if you can find one, it can be cheaper to buy the whole rear and put it under the truck then it is to setup the gears, depending on what you find and for how much.

I live in a truck haven so a 8.8 rear end won't be hard to find. I could probably pick one up for about 150 bucks. What is the tag number for an 8.8 with LS? State Farm will know. The inspect all of my family's vehicles once a year because my dad got in a wreck when someone rear ended him and they hit his trailer hitch. Because the hitch was welded to the frame we were held liable for some unknown reason.

Axle codes on the inside door panel

41 - 3.27 non-limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
45 - 3.55 non-limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
46 - 3.73 non-limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
42 - 4.10 non-limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
D1 - 3.27 limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
D4 - 3.73 limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
D2 - 4.10 limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)

thanks. That will help out a lot. Looks like im heading to a junk yard tomorrow morning and calling my old co-workers up at Advance Auto. I used to know a lot of people that could find me one in a heart beat and could almost get it for free. I hope one of those guys is in the store tomorrow when i go to visit. Did they make a D2 with drums?

Don't disgrace the SVT name by putting that badge on your X.

First off, your truck isn't fast.
It isn't a streeter
It probably isn't nearly as sleek as a true SVT Cobra or Lightning.

Just a forewarning, if any Cobra or L owners see you driving around with SVT badging prepare to be heckled and made fun of alot.

Best of luck to ya.

Hell no it isn't going to be as fast as a Cobra or any other factory purchased vehicle. I just like to build up what I have and don't get pissed at me for an idea. That's all it was....an idea. But for what the vehicle has come from where it was....it is quick, especially for a V-6.

Hey kid, don't get an attitude with me just because i was trying to give you some sound advice. Take a closer look at my post and you might notice that I was trying to give you pointers. I wasn't ticked off in the least. I could care less what you do to your truck. I was just trying to help you out. Next time why don't you settle down a little bit before shooting your mouth off.

Alright.....I'm just saying.....I wasn't trying to be rude. I just get a little stubborn when people try to compare things to things that are way out of another things league. It's cool. Thanks for the opinion. I just want to build something that no one else has built. If I had what you have with that 2003 I would put the new 3 valve 5.4 in the explorer. My dad had a 01 Supercrew with a 5.4 until it caught on fire because of the cruiser control module not turning off. That is one strong motor. I was thinking about going with JBA headers and I see that you have them......do you like them?

thank you stevo, thats what i was trying to say.. i also had a near death experienc in a 94 blazer. that doesnt help my biasiam. im not a chevy fan, i think their plain and ugly, and none ive hear off ppl owning have been good with out mantinance. but thats me. everyone is different, just putting my .02 cents in. thats all

these forums are FULL of opinions, thats just the nature of posting stuff out where everyone can see it and basically asking for opinions.

It is nice to see we can all get along, there is always something you may want to do to your truck that other people think is silly or dumb, its cool hell my friends poke fun at my truck projects all the time, but since I built it I dont really care, I think it was worth the effort and looks great.

For the price of a supercharger kit itself, let alone the installation, I could have a nice modded v8 out of a stang and 5 speed, in my 93 sport, and hand it to any 4.0 X. Turbo'd super'd, or N/a .

why modded V8 from a Stang?
Are you sure?
You need a transmission to go with the V8, the cost may be more then you think. But yes I agree I would rather do a V8 conversion myself then mess with boosting a V6. I think boosted V6's kick ass and I applaud people who do them, but for me the V8 was the route to take, mainly for the toughness of the transmission

Im giving him feedback, that is what he asked for.

There is nothing wrong with minor stuff like that, just dont stick an SVT emblem after the Explorer emblem on the tailgate of the truck. lol. Those are some good looking gauges im a fan of white faced a lot i want to get some for mine soon.

You need to do maintenance to any vehicle for it to be "good" or for it to last. Ok well we can agree to disagree, we are all different and have different taste and lets leave it at that.

Now on the topic of gears, I really like that my truck came stock with a 3.73 posi it has a very nice and peppy first gear. They do pretty good on the highway i think a 4.10 would be perfect as i dont do too much highway driving and having it quick off the line is more fun and useful. I cant wait to actually go off roading...but then again i have a feeling i will get hooked and want to put money into this truck. I got it as a beater truck for the winter and hauling parts for my chevy. :)

If I had what you have with that 2003 I would put the new 3 valve 5.4 in the explorer.

No need for a torquey 3v 5.4 modular V8 as I will easily have well over 500 lb/ft rwtq @ around 2000 rpms once I get my truck on the dyno and tune it. This combo I have built now is good for 700 hp at the crank. The 3 valve just has more bells and whistles to get in the way of performance and tuning...

I was thinking about going with JBA headers and I see that you have them......do you like them?

JBA makes some pretty decent product depending on the application.

Uuuum, there never was an Adrenaline... Ford cancelled it when still in prototype phase.
