I posted this on an explorer FB page already, but I figured I'd get some more recommendations here. I have a 03 4.0 4x4 that the OD band broke and shot metal through the transmission. I was originally planning on rebuilding it myself, but would rather swap in a good trans and save a lot of time and a little bit of money.

I found a transmission and transfer case near me from a 2004 4.0 that has supposedly been rebuilt about 50k miles ago. Ive been told that the solenoid pack will need to be swapped over since they revised it for 2004.

Is that the only difference? Are all the sensors and torque converter the same? Anything else I need to know?

Thanks!

I've personally been wondering if a 4th gen transmission can be used...
@TechGuru
Did the 2003s use a "W" or "S"? I understand following '05, S was used exclusively. imp
