The motor is coming out of the Mountaineer and getting prepped for build up and upload into the Explorer. I started Tuesday night by cleaning the garage bay, Last night I manuvered it into the bay, removed the drive shafts and drained the transfer case. Tonight I pulled off most of the front, drained the tranny, oil, radiator and AC. Removed the radiator, and associated.

Here's the pics.

finally huh. Sorry i missed your call last night, i was asleep.

Oh, you've been busy--

How long is this going to take? Did you decide on a Camshaft?

Did most of that work thursday night (3 hours) The grill and stuff was already off and I had my buddy helping me.

I still haven't decided on a camshaft. I've still got some time. Jegs is right here in town and I can get about anything in a day picked up at the store.

More progress tonight:

Everything is unbolted, I can't get the header bolts off at the collector, they are rusted too bad so I'm going to have to lift the motor off of them and cut them. They are off of the block though. I still need to disconnect the fuel lines and the tranny linkages tomorrow morning, then the motor is coming out tomorrow afternoon.

The transfer case is out and ready to be shipped

The pile to get rid of or save for if I need.

The pile to keep for future use

So that was 5 more hours tonight. Probably 3-5 more hours tomorrow and it will be on a stand and ready to start being cleaned and built.

As I am looking around, I'm seeing other things I need to replace too. The cost keeps going up. My idler pullies are a little wobbeley, I'm going to have to replace them as well as the tensioner pulley.

Finally!

Very good pictures, and I like the blue cherry picker. Have fun with the cleaning, that will be the worst part. Truly have fun with the assembly, that's the most satisfying. Regards,

f it

I started ripping apart the dash for the wiring harness as jtsmith suggested. What a royal pain in the ass. I got the dash completely out but it would take me 2 more days work to get the harness out completely, then 3 days work to get it back into the other truck. I'll just put an aftermarket alarm on the Explorer and call it a day. JCWhitney sells a starter kill that requires a code to start the truck. I might consider that. The wiring harness is just too damn much work for too little benefit. On the bright side, if anyone needs dash parts, I've got them off and ready to go.

Whoa!
I thought I was referring to the engine harness. The difference in model year is why I said that.
Check all the modules--they may plug right into the harness you are using.
This is actually 410fortunes expertise--

Maybe it is covered in his making 1 good ex from 2 thread.

Ditto, I've been all through the harnesses, all of them. What are you trying to do, you mention an alarm?

this all looks very very familiar, I cant put my finger on it.....

I wanted to pull all the wiring harnesses and move the PATS key system over to the explorer as well as the keyless entry (with the fob). For $30 i can get a keyless entry system from JCWhitney. $30<20 more hours of work.

I thought that might be what you were talking about. I have actually thought of that regarding my 91 Lincoln Mark VII. I will probably install the Explorer OBDII system in my LSC, but the PATS system is too much trouble. I think using the 96/97 PCM will be much better to retrofit for me.

You have donor parts, so you don't need any parts from me. You can possibly though add the keyless entry, but it would also need some wiring added. If you can do without it, that would be easier.

Today, I stood sad in my driveway as my long and rocky 20 month Mountaineer road come to a sad ending.<playing taps>

I hate scrapping cars, there is always a lot that you wish that you could save and store away. My 93 and 99 Explorer scraps looked like somebody got a hold of it with a large pair of tin snips. We had cut sections out of the frame, and the whole body was cut down in pieces to fit on a trailer. The scrap yard emptied it in a few minutes with a magnet. Regards,
