I am looking at putting in a larger thottlebody and mass airflow sensor. My question is, can I make these mods without installing a superchip. The chip will come on a later date but for now $$ is tight. Or should the chip be the first up-grade I should make.
Has anyone used the new Cool Blue airfilter from Accel, if so how do you like it?

do the other mods before the chip. cuz the chip will have to be programmed to the other mods

Actually it depends on the chip. According to Superchips, their chip can take into account a larger MAF sensor and TB. It's not necessary to get it programmed unless you really do something like a cam or a supercharger, etc...

Either way, call the chip maker and ask them what they think about the mods you want to make, and if it needs custom programming.

So the stock computer will be ok with the mods of thottlebody and mass airflow?

Yes, it should be fine. The computer is adaptive, and can take a small amount of moddinginto account and compensate. To get the maximum benefit from these mods, you do need the chip, but it can wait till later.

Thats great!! Guess I will do some ordering soon .

Its when you put the whole puzzle together that you get the chip to take FULL advantage of the mods

A custom chip with a dyno session and tune is the best method to take full advantage of the new mods.

I run a 93 OHV 4.0L with:
KKM
97 Ranger intake tube (re-locate battery)
Granatelli 70mm MAS
BBK 63mm TB
JBA headers
2.5" cat and single exhaust

Now I have taken some time off from the engine tuning ($$$) recently, but the plan is to build another OHV using an camcraft cam new pushrods, ported intakes, higher compression heads, and some valvetrain work.
24# injectors, and stand alone fuel management

After that I will go to a local speed shop (see Mustang) and have the EEC reflashed and/or a chip installed to tune the setup....

The TB and MAS are designed to work with the factory injectors and computer. So far so good!!! :)

Where are you getting your TB and MAF from?

EE has an open group buy from PRO M, for MAS these are much cheaper then the Ganatelli, and can be re-calibrated if you do mods later, I.E. injectors, headers, CAI, ect. Granatelli is currently not doing custom programming. They said that they are really back ordered and can't take the time to do it. TB I have to go with EE once again. They will match any price that you find.
Hope this helps
Jeff
