Titanvs F150

I know it may not mean a lot, but seat of the pants is real hard on these trucks. I know 3 people that own new f150s and we have all said, it is very easy to be speeding and not know it. The feel of "speed" in this truck tends to be off. There are many times when i have caught myself going 35 down the side street and it DEFINATELY did not feel like i was going that fast.

I think it's because they are soo damn quiet. My dad's had 3 Corvettes and they are all the same. You're doing 90 in the interstate and it feel like 60.

You ain't kiddin!!! Speed is VERY deceptive in our F-150. Just driving along our road (45MPH Speed Limit) I look down and I'm doing 70...the sensation of speed just isn't there. At first I thought my brakes weren't working correctly because it felt like it took a long time to stop, then I started paying attention to the speedometer more and realized that the long stop times were due to me going about 15-20 mph faster than I thought I was going. I'm constantly using the cruise control now.

yeah thats true..the day my grandpa got his '03 super crew..we where going along in a 50MPH zone. an it felt like 50..he looked down an he was doing 75mph..lol he came from a '01 sport trac so the f-150 sits up alot higher they say that messes with your sense of things.

I've driven a '98 F250 with the 5.4 and that thing is a neck snapper. I've spun the tires many times on that thing by accident just going straight at a light. The new 5.4 has more power than its older version, so that seems like it would haul arse.

Too true about the perception of speed thing. My dad used to have a 1996 Dodge Ram with the 360 ci V8. It would feel like you were doing an honest 35 mph, but look down at the speedo and your doing like 55. Almost got in trouble with the law for that a few times.

What About the best of all trucks...

The Tough Toyota Tundra!

but on the the new f-150 they packed the pounds on with adding all the improvments(stiffer frame, sound deading). so it pretty much offsets itself power wise to the extra weight.

Go w/ the Tundra I-force v-8!

We took my son't Titan to the track tonight; his best was a 15.8 at 85 something. He has the timming slips.

I never got to race one in the 1/4, but in the eighth in my Explorer I beat one every time I went up against it. Of course, I wasn't stock either ;)

This thread has nothing to do with the Tundra. Come back when the new Tundra comes out and is actually full-size, not a 9/10th's scale one like now.

by that sweet truck that is meteor proof, i think it is a nissan but it has a comercial where it gets hit by a meteor and they guys all scream........ badass imo

We took my son’s Titan to the dyno ( http://proautotech.com/ ) again today.

We first did a baseline run that yielded 260.97 rwhp and 325.81 rw torque.

After that we installed a new “Black Box” mod; it is software that creates new MAF voltage output vs RPM maps within the box. By altering the MAF voltage that the ecu sees, it cause the PCM to utilize more ideal maps (either more rich, or more lean) at specific areas of the rpm curve. It's basically a translator.

This device was developed by the owner of the dyno facility.

The install took about 20 minutes. This was followed by downloading software into the box and a dyno run, This was repeated about 5 times.

The final results are a net gain of 17.26 rwhp ( 41.02 over bone stock ) and an increase of 10.26 rw torque.

The dyno graph below shows the bone stock run, today’s baseline and the final “black box” run.

Another pleasant bonus was the boost in gas mileage. The return trip to Sarasota netted 18 MPG at 75-80 MPH; that’s a 4 MPG boost over normal; and that my friend’s is worth the price of the black box alone.

We took the Titan to the track this morning and did 3 runs.

His best was 15.4 at 89.6 MPH. Thats a 1/2 second over the last trip.

Incredible that it got you 4 mpg, which makes me wonder why Nissan wouldn't have the PCM programmed the same way from the factory. What, if any, do you think are the downsides of this program aldive?

None

Running too lean and harming the engine is distinctly possible.

Playing devil's advocate here....why would Nissan not do something like that from the factory then? If so, they could advertise that their truck, in addition to having a bad-ass motor, gets the highest V8 fuel economy of any full-size truck.

To counter: why doesn't Ford add the modifications that I have made to mine and get 30 MPG?

The aftermarket has always outperformed the factory.

Well the mods you've done are a bit more expensive then just having a different program on the PCM. If its something as simple as a computer program, you'd think they'd want to use something like that from the factory. You should sell them the programming :-D

I just want to add my 2cents... My '05 F150(5.4) is WEAK. It may have 300hp, but it has absolutely no low end torque. Drive-by-wire is crap-it makes its lack of power feeling even worse. It rides smooth though. I wish I had a Titan, but since this is my company truck, I didn't have a say so. And Titans are made here in Mississippi.

I wish my F150 had the power of the Explorer; and I wish my Explorer rode like the F150.
