Hey guys, I am currently waist deep in my tranny replacement. Ive the got the other transmission to go into my X, but I am having the darndest time gettin the old one out. I know there are two bolts on the top of the bellhousing, but I just cant seem to get to them.

Anyone got any sort of tips, or tricks. I have got multiple swivles, and about 40 inches worth of extensions, just cant seem to get it......

I got to mine from under the hood, with a swivel ratchet pointed back forward.

The hood was off, this might make a difference.

You might try a gear wrench also.

Were you able to do with with the upper intake on, or did that have to come off?

Lol, that was what I was worried about, because it does look like it would be much easier with that off.

Thanks

tilt the trans down at the back as far as possible and you will need an extension 3 to 4 foot long. looking at the top of the bellhousing from the back transmission tunnel you should be able to see the bolts now and get them off. It might help to have another person reach up around the bell housing to guide the socket onto the bolts.

I went through the hole in the tranny tunnel from inside the cab. A swivel and a couple extensions and it wasn't too bad. Busted the crap out of my finger when the wrench slipped, that sheet metal is sharp.

Very easy to get. LONG extension, with one or two separate shorter extensions on front, for wobble. You want your head to be right near the outpout shaft of the transmission, just to the driver side in front of the gas tank. You can wedge a light behind the head, and firewall, and you will be able to see what your doing this way. I just did two today. Second one went much faster :)

A little duck tape around those extensions and your wrobbly socket so the setup doesn't keep coming apart on you is good for sure

I get all of the bellhousing
Bolts with a 36” extension, wobbly and socket from back around the transfer case
Can literally remove 6 bh bolts in about 2 minutes with an impact
Trucks needs to be way up in the air, plenty of light and space to work
