I'm not sure I'm on the right Forum, but here goes, maybe someone can set me straight if not.

I have a 2010 Explorer Limited 4 X 4 and wonder if it can be towed on the ground behind an RV without damaging anything in the running gear, etc.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I believe you will need to install a neutral tow kit for the vehicle. Not sure about the newer models, but this was definitely the case in earlier models. My buddy used to tow his 98 behind a motor home, and we installed the kit on his vehicle.

Check the owners manual. It should have a section on towing and will hopefully have that info.

Thank you for the QUICK reply, I will check the manual to see what I have to do.

See Page 271 in your owner's manual.

If you have a 2wd or an all wheel drive, you must either remove the driveshafts or tow it on a flatbed trailer.

If you have a 2-speed torque-on-demand system, you can have a neutral tow kit installed by your dealer. It should be a 6L2Z-7H332-A for all '07-up Explorers/Mountaineer/Sport Trac with the automatic 4wd. (But have the dealer verify that as well).

Be sure and have them include the installation paperwork that comes with the kit. It includes all the installation instructions, as well as a wiring diagram and the programming information. If you plan on keeping it for a while, I would insist on having ALL the info in my hands. :)
