Solved Transfer Case 4x4 Issue

Prefix for threads that contain problems that have been resolved, and there is an answer within the thread.
No codes but I agree with you on that, just wanted to make sure the sensor issue could be causing the flashing OD light. Also when I put the shift motor back on the range selector shaft lines up with the shift motor but the shift motor mounting bolts don't line up with the transfer case, I can move it to line up but it feels like it's under tension. Did I miss an adjustment or something?
If the OD light is flashing, there’s a stored code. Not all readers will pull transmission codes.

Is the 4 low light still on?

Nope 4 low light is off

Possibly
The stator assembly is adjustable on the shift motor
The cover has hash marks on the side you should have marked the case before you take it apart and out back same spot. No biggie, you can loosen the 3 small screws and turn it slightly now see if it helps bring the motor back into range that the gem will see

The flashing od light, I bet a code is pending after some more drive cycles
Something to do with your t case speed sensors I bet or the wiring!!!

Do I need to take the entire shift motor off and move the plate or do I just move it until it seems like it has the least tension?

Just loosen the top plate and rotate it slightly like a few hash marks clockwise see if it recognizes the motor and starts turning

If not try going the other way a few hash marks

So there aren't any marks on the new shift motor. And it does turn when it first starts up, but it turns about 180 degrees then back to its original position, plus the motor only lines up with the range shaft when it's all the way in 4 low. After it does it's initial movement on startup it just goes dead and refuses to attempt to engage again. Anyways turns out it's not engaging 4 high it's really just stuck in 4 low still.

It shouldn’t initially move on power up, I don’t believe. It should stay put unless you shift it to low. Take the shift motor off, and manually shift it into high.

I did but then I can't get the shift motor to line up again with the shaft on the transfer case. I tried moving the plate on the top like 410 said but it still did the same thing and made a god awful squealing noise. Also scanned for codes again after all this and got nothing.

Really sounds like you have a wiring issue, or something is wrong with the computer. I’d do my troubleshooting with the motor off. You’ll need to figure out what’s making it command low.

The 4 low light doesn't come on ever though which I thought would if it was ever in 4 low. I thought maybe a relay was shorted out since the GEM still does that ticking noise trying to move the shift motor, but if it was a relay then the shift motor wouldn't move at all right?

Somethings obviously not working as intended. If a relay was welded closed it very well might try and change position until it hit its limit. Or you have something wired incorrectly. Or something is wrong with whatever computer controls the 4wd. (GEM?)

gem controls 4wd.. however of OP changes gems depending on the year you run into PATS

Pats does not talk to the gem module
Gem modules are vehicle specific and must be matched to one another when swapped out, but they are not a part of the pats security system

T case motor should not move at start up, it should only move when you command a shift

I went back and read page one of this thread

This all started after mechanic fixed front wheel speed sensors
And
After you replaced your t case wiring harness and sensors

It really could be an issue with your control trac t case, I have seen many of these units fail they are problematic

Can you shift the t case into 2wd manually, forget about the shift motor issues for a bit we need to troubleshoot your t case abs front end

Yeah I can shift it out of low into 4h and it has a neutral spot marked as well, I can hear it click into each position too.

i stand corrected;) guess i assumed vehicle specific=pats🤔 thanks jamie! i lesrn something everyday!

Okay and if the shift
Motor is just hanging in the air on its wiring harness can you move it from 4auto to 4hi and then low? Does it shift?
If no then there is an electrical issue somewhere in the gem, the wiring, or the shift motor (yeah! Not like you didn’t already know this)

But it’s an easy test

It does turn, but it's like it has no idea where to go and defaults to low, it spins about 180 degrees then back to low position, my last guess is the motor position wires on the harness are messed up, might just take it to an electrical shop, I'm getting tired of ripping it apart.

Something fishy i there for sure
You said your harness was messed up and you repaired it? Or replaced it?

I cut one off a 96 that had all the same wires and spliced then together, the harness itself was irreparable.
