transfer case cracked...How to FIX?

i have a crack in my transfer case right near the drain bolt plug...its no more then an inch long and not thick but it is leaking....do i have to replace the whole thing or can i just clean it out JB weld it or put gasket sealer on it?

It won't hurt anything to try this stuff--

I have seen it fix holes in gas tanks--

Drain the fluid--use a wire wheel on a drill to clean the area real good, then glob some over the leak. Then maybe stick a piece of duct tape over the Seal all.

I think you can get it at Wal-Mart for about $4.00
 






Find a junk one, or glue it and see how long it lasts. I would try JB Weld on it...
 






Yes yes -- some cold weld compound (JB Weld, etc..) would be my first move.
 






A crack is like a wedge, it will continue to try to spread.

If possible, drill a small hole at the ends of the crack to relieve the stress. Then apply the JBWeld.
 






Excellent advice dkcase.

Should this fail, remember your 4405 case has its share of problems... mostly case related - you can rebuild it yourself with a modded and much superior case.
