1994 ford explorer
i recently lost reverse and first gear in my explorer. i have a 94 ford explorer with the 4.0. my friend has a 90 ford bronco ll that he said i could have the transmission in it for free. would the 2.9 auto tranny in the bronco two work in my 4.0 explorer?

Your 94 Explorer has an A4LD transmision. If the Bronco has that, (which is highly unlikely), it might fit.

Might fit. Might work, but probably not. Second-guessing such possibilities is like living in a dream world, knowing the extent of technical complexity involved in today's vehicles. Just my 2 cents. imp
 






Well I found out its a 90 bronco 2 2.9 and it has an a4ld tranny
 






Best bet - talk to a junkyard or a transmission shop. I know the Broncos had the A4LD so I'm glad you found that yourself. Will it work completely? I don't know but could guess. Are both trucks column-shift? That's a big issue as to what you'd have to switch from one to the other...

Keep in mind, the B II trans may be weaker than yours, and maybe the transfer cases might not bolt up...
 






Yeah they are both colum shift a4ld and that's a good point ill have tool into it
