U-Haul

They single out the explorer since it was the one rolling over. From what i recall not many mountaineers rolled if any. My guess is mountaineer owners were the smarter bunch.

When i talked to a manager a few years back he said it was because of all of the lawsuits coming from explorer owners. They tired to blame everyone and in the end they found ford at fault. He clearly said its not because of design flaw but consumers not being trained properly and ford for not having the correct tire pressure suggested for the factory tires. I don't blame U-haul since i would not want to get sucked into any mess like that one was.

Brings up another tired quote: "If there is a stupid law (or rule) there was a stupid person.

Its a shame everyone has to pay for the folks that refuse to accept personal responsibility.

They said very clearly that it was not a safety issue. It's about protecting themselves from lawsuits. The official policy is exactly what I stated in the email (and confirmed by phone a few months ago) - Explorers are the only excluded vehicles, while Explorer derivatives are allowed.

As far as the tire blowouts are concerned, I still feel it's more Firestone's fault. Yes, Ford recommended low tire pressures, but many Explorers had other brands of tires installed, none of which had the excessive blowout rate of the Firestone Wilderness AT. Furthermore, the tires in question were made during a period of strike at Firestone.

Speaking of the Firestone, that's still my spare tire. How do you convince a tire shop to change it? I ask them to whenever I replace tires, they agree (even for free!) and I'm always stuck with the same damned tire.

You won't get anywhere with U Haul. They don't really care about a few letters here and there. If something happened, the public would still remember Explorer=Rollover. If they didn't cave to the avalanche of mail they must have received in the beginning a few letters now will mean nothing.

They probably never get past minimum wage temps, who are only allowed to respond with their closest form letter. U Haul equipment is garbage. Thank them they didn't rent you something that wouldn't make it where you were going anyways. If you absolutely MUST rent a u haul, rebadge your truck, or pick it up with something else.

Rebadging.... interesting. Anyone know if a Ranger front end would fit a 98 Explorer?;)

I'm sure it could be made to work, but a Mountaineer front would be a direct bolt in.

But I must add U Haul is a garbage company, with garbage equipment, and I would not let them profit on me. I'd much rather rent from ANYWHERE else.

Like I said earlier, and contrary to what Inmagic said, In New Hampshire and Northeastern Massachusetts, U-haul will not rent trailers to Mountaineers. Been there, tried it, was told they had nothing to rent. The guy right behind me in line was rented the trailer I had asked about before I could walk out the door. When I turned around and asked WTF??? I was told they do not rent to Mountaineers or Explorers because of the issue in all the other posts.

anybody want to get as many explorer's together as possible and storm the headquarters?

I'm in if we can get enough interest, maybe we can get some proof of poor trailer maintenance too 2 birds one stone

i'm willing to camp out front of their headquarters in my explorer, who's with me?

not worth it.

I rather just find an alternative which is either drive 8 miles further away or buy my own trailer.

So many other companies out that rent. Some Home depots actually rent trailers.

Nah! Its worth it whether we ever really ever rent from them again. Im in. Hell, I'll bring the grand babies (7&9) for the evening news. that with the fact ive NEVER had an at fault accident (being hella stuck does NOT count ) Sir, I am in!

Cant tow eh? NO its not an exploder, but it has less engine and less stability than the explorer Im driving NOW. Kind of a bloated, preggo explorer :)

Take an overblown ego, too much throttle, add alcohol and sand. You have several bruised egos and REALLY stuck CHEVIES LOL. God what a gooooooood day!
