So first day with my son's 98 Ranger and after a few hours we already have the tranny out and clutch, flywheel, etc torn apart. Lots of fun getting those trans bolts out and not looking forward to putting them back in! Wasn't too bad but decided to buy a better trans jack for height and stability on the re-install. We have a spare clutch with minimum wear to use, but will pop for a new flywheel, release bearing and slave cylinder of course. Trying not to replace the master as well, but will check that out after everything is back together and replace then if necessary.
Reading various posts out there it seems the slave cylinders are prone to failure, so wondering if anyone can comment on that? Is it worth going for a dealership part? Any suggestions on best manufacturer?
This Ranger is an XLT with a 3.0L and 5 speed and is in excellent shape body and frame wise, so don't mind spending a few dollars on the drivetrain.

Cheers all....

The slave seems to go bad before the clutch, no matter which brand is used. I don't think there has been a consensus as to which slave is the longest lasting.
