I have a 01 Explorer with 88K miles and have a 'creaking' sound on the right wheel area when i go thru dips--I have replaced the shocks and it did not fix the problem. I am now looking at replace the 'outer' upper control arm (it is a two piece unit on the passenger side) BUT i have heard that it could also be BUSHINGS. I have already pulled the wheel off and have seen a video on youtube about how to replace the upper control arm. BUT when I looked I could not see any bushings. Where are they located if you all think that might be the problem. Any help is apprec
thanx

Lower ball joints will squeak also. If it makes a noise when you lean your weight on the front of the vehicle, or pushing against the bumper, I'd question them.

The bushings will be part of the upper arm. If you keep the 2 piece passenger side arm, you will need to replace the bushings on the inner part.

The driver side upper control arm will have new bushings on it.

You can also just elect to replace the passenger side with a one piece unit, which will have new bushings already installed

Same for the lower arms. If it was me, I would replace the lower control arm-( includes new ball joint and bushings) for round 95.00, before pressing a ball joint into a control arm with worn bushings.
