Well, folks, here we are two weeks into the new year. I've already decided to keep up the tradition of running to Uwharrie (near Troy, NC) and as such, will be needing to coordinate this year's run with those who are interested.

I missed the group last year, but still made the trip. Hopefully this year we'll all be able to get together on the trails, and not break any thing expensive!

I'm looking forward to it and will planning a bit better for it! Hopefully it'll be a better turn out and look forward to finally getting to meet some of yall in person, and being able thank some of yall for all the help over the years!
But c'mon, seriously, breaking stuff is where half of the funs at! lmao

As of now, the schedule is looking like mid-summer to early fall, as usual.

These maps are outdated, as some trails have been added and/or modified since these were made.

@DemonMudder Speak for yourself, I haven't finished trail testing my Sport since I wasted the front suspension in last year's Uwharrie run!

I definitely prefer the idea of fall, partially for some nice cool weather and beautiful colors, but also I got one heck of a work schedule planned for this summer, need to seriously build my savings back up or I won't be likely to make it myself. But, time will tell too!

And yeah, I have to agree with good luck not breaking anything, after all, we gotta drive these rigs home still! lmao

If it wasn't so far. And I had a trailer and rig to haul it. those trails look like fun.

Never know what life will be like by then, never say never lol

@ProjectAviator Listen to DemonMudder. Just five years ago, I would have never thought I'd be able to get out to these places and do these things. Then somebody else's misfortune scored me a free wreck that rebuilt nicely into my tow/recovery rig.

Work situation might be a major determining factor for you at the moment, or not, but when corporations or franchises or other bosses get a mind to reach down and stick their fingers in the pies, nothing is sacred. For example, my pay structure just changed recently, so now I get paid for all the work I had been doing for free, my work load is less, AND I get more paid time off. These changes allowed me to purchase an other truck for other tasks, freeing up my toys from daily duty.

Win/win/win/win/win/win/win out of seemingly nowhere, and I say God bless it. It could happen to any one - no matter how totally unrealistically unachievable some thing looks to day, to morrow, you could be laughing at how ridiculous it seems that you ever struggled to reach it.

So, if you want to do some thing like visit this trail system, just keep an eye on your opportunities, make sure you prioritize the important stuff first, and decide how worthwhile it is to pursue. These trails are a blast; there's basic stuff and challenging stuff for drivers of all skill levels. A rig of your description (I read your signature) would be in its element here.

P.S. U-Haul rents trucks and trailers. Need a tow rig and a trailer? Consider renting both.

Waking up this thread again, has anybody got any clearer ideas of when we might be looking to make this trip? I could make it during the week or during the week end, preferably not during a holiday week end, but we're still early enough in the year that nobody else has claimed any holidays off in my workplace.

I'm leaning toward somewhere between early August and mid October, as I have other plans that will occupy the earlier part of the summer. Personally I'm leaning toward August, but if you fellas like cooler weather, I can make that work for me!

I definitely would prefer August or September, maybe even a smidge closer to the September end of that scale. As ya said, early enough I could ask for about anything off, holidays being harder to get off. But I do have a crazy busy summer working two jobs, so the later the better for me, October just feels a bit too late. 100% like cooler weather! How much time are ya thinking, maybe a total of a week?

@DemonMudder I've never had a reason to spend more than one afternoon and one morning here; the most I can see getting out of it, even with a big group, is three days (arrive the first afternoon, spend the night, stay all day the second day, spend the second night, leave the third afternoon). There is a lot to see and do, but doing it doesn't take long, and you figure out quickly whether a trail is one you're willing to risk. If you like to spend a lot of time chilling and talking at camp, you might be able to find enough to do for three days. Or if you like boating or fishing. I don't.

Solo, I ran almost all of the trails in both directions in the space of 24 hours, skipping only 1 or 2 of the hardest trails.

I've got some new issues with the Vulture that I'm going to need to work out before this trip; she can't be trusted beyond the driveway in her current condition.

Fair, fair, I like my sitting around basking in the woods, so I'd probably stay out a bit longer, plus to make the distance of the trip worth it for me. Maybe I'll bring a kayak haha!

Dang, not bad at all!

Yeah, me too bud, Deathrow's tranny is shot, she ain't going no where for a while..hopefully yours is a bit easier to deal with than mine! lol

@DemonMudder Yeah, I read your latest... I'll stay on topic here and comment on that there.

I'll also update my thread describing the new issue and what I'd like to get done before the trip.

As far as the Badin Lake area goes, there is all kinds of stuff to do there. Hiking, biking, horse riding, kayaking, canoeing, there's a gun range and fishing spots too. I just come for the wheeling.

Fair enough, forgot ya already peaked there, on topic it is lol

To each their own, may as well try other fun!

Mega bump. This year is already nearly a third of the way over, and my Explorer has just received some much-needed maintenance and overhauls.

I'm thinking this trip is best done in August or September; the daylight hours will be more favorable in August, but temperatures more tolerable in September. At this point it's early enough for me to get week days or week end off for the trip. Let me know what works for you fellas, and we'll narrow down the date.

Glad ya got everything done and its running so good again!
Well I'm just gonna keep on the low schedule wise for the next month or so, probably won't be till mid to late next month before I get the explorer into the shop. So until that's done and broken in, I'm not ready for a trip, but I do like September a bit more myself.

So has a date been decided yet?

@ProjectAviator Nope, have you got a date that might work well for you? Whoever picks the number first gets to decide when it happens, and every thing else will coordinate based on that.

All I will say, is just please make sure its not covering labor day if at all possible, not as likely to be able to get that day off. But mid to late September otherwise should be just fine with for us!

Well, I still wanna try, but I may have to be October instead if at all. Having to take a good bit of time off on September for something family related, so most of that month is gone and August may still be a smidge busy for me to get too much time off. But August may work, just want to give the explorer plenty of time to break in before trying two big trips like that, so I'd prefer early October if yall are fine with it, but I can maybe make August work
