v8 exhaust ONLY....Cant get a straight answer!!

that was great so a tune will correct everything, another question if i were to do the exhaust in a week. and wait to do the tune until spring would that damage my engine casue its running to lean?

yea you will be fine...

just when you get the exhaust i would unhook the battery again, and just let your truck idle for a 5-10 minutes before driving, so the computer can learn to compensate for the new A/F change...

your already in the right direction with the tune, that will give you optimum performance from the intake/exhaust combo...

once you do get the intake/exhaust/tune done, i would take a rough guess that you should have a total ball park gain of 25HP-30HP maybe, and maybe 20-30TQ from your V8...

thats exactly what i was looking for so i should be at about 270hp after this is all said and done id like to do the exhaust this month and get slightly bigger tires for the winter just gonna go about an inch bigger, then once it gets nice out get a tune. I now i asked this before but my truck should be fine running without a tune for thos couple of winter months..also i noticed with any intake installed on a car it improves it but before a tune theres some points where the car doesnt know what to do. Ex: when im flooring it petal to the metal sounds sick and shifts flawlessly, as to if I floored it and took my foot of the gas before it shifts its almost like it doesnt now wut to do sometimes. I now its the intake and the a/f ratio not 100% correct.

You stock PCM should be able to adjust the fuel mixture upto +/- 25% or so with throwing on a check engine light. So you will be ok, I know I've had my K&N intake since they first came out for the 02 explorer. I think I got it in 2004. Did you disconnect the battery after installing the K&N?

yeah thats the first step is to disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Just making sure. Mine will do the same if you are accelerating and let off the gas just before or as it is shifting, the trans goes goofy. I try to let it shift before letting up, if possible.

I would see about cleaning the MAF sensor out this weekend because K&N's are known to have a little extra oil in the filters and will coat the MAF sensor. Then it will run a shade funny.

You will be fine with no tune for a while, the tune will just bring everything together and it will run a little faster

So i went to midas casue i needed to now wut i can do for sure and pricing. So i was told I cant do 3 inch pipe unless i want to do a small piece after the hopover which would be pointless only for looks. He said theres not enough room to get 3 inch pipe in there. so the largest he said i can do is 2.5 so Im getting FM 50 2.5 pipe to the hope over then out the back and total after tax will be $511. Thats a pretty good number for me as to i now it will be done correctly. He also said it will be loud and asked if i was going to chip it. And of course i said yes so he recommended the 50 for more flow than the 70 and not as loud as the 40.

$511 is not bad for a shop doing all the work, but you can do it yourself for less. You can snag a Magnaflow cat-back for <$400, and it is an easy install to do yourself. Plus that gets you mandrel bends, stainless steel, and a lifetime warranty. Not to mention Magnaflow flows better and sounds better (personal opinion) than Flowmaster.

yeh i had a magnaflow on my honda and it sounded amazing my nextstore neighbor is buying a pipe bender ... and lucky for me the $511, or $400 wont come close to what I would be paying. muffler and pipe prob around $150 and he said he would do it for free and it gives me alot more room to play he said he can make me a sick setup with pipes coming out on the side before or after the rear tire..

Awesome. Just keep in mind that the system will not be any better than stock for performance...your results will strictly be sound.

i would have to disagree as to the stock muffler is very restrictive and the pipe is only 2.25 and im upgrading to 2.5 with a high performance muffler so my results will be sound and a huge performance increase the v6 is alot different exhaust setup and everything you might be thinking of that but for the most part an cat back after market exhaust is going to perform better than the stock

You are entitled to your opinion...but will have to provide numbers to back that up. The stock muffler is not a huge restriction, and a Flowmaster is not great for flow either. You may be going up ¼" in diameter, but you are losing any gains by having crush-bends as opposed to mandrel bends. "Huge performance increase" is relative, but a few horsepower is not huge to most folks. I am not trying to be a downer, just want you to have realistic expectations of your results.

Mandrel bends are definately better for flow, the inner diameter of the pipe stays constant. Where as most other pipe benders end up kinking and crushing the pipe on the inner radius of the bend, which results in the inner diameter of the pipe being reduced significantly. This is kind of the same for the flowmaster mufflers. They use chambers and baffles inside the muffler to get the sound, where as a MAgnaflow or Gibson muffler is straight through for free exhaust flow.

SOLD!! now im either going to get the actual magnaflow kit so i can easily install it with no problems or the magnaflow muffler and mandrel pipe and run it myself

You can find the Magnaflow kit for less than $400, which is a good deal to me. You get the system already shaped, it is stainless, and includes the expensive parts (muffler and exhaust tip). Keep an eye on eBay and you could snag a deal like I did this summer; $260 for the brand-new kit!

with the K&N, and a Magnaflow 2.5'' exhaust, combined you should net almost or right on a 20 HP gain...

i cant wait to get my exhaust re-ran over my rear axle...
