want to go wheeling sometime in colorado

in Feb?
thats the snowiest month!
Maybe somebody with more experiece in that area (Salida) will chime in, even though I have lived in CO my whole life, I am afraid Ihave not wheeled much in that area, but I assume in FEB there is still ALOT of snow up there?

I am down in 07 if all goes well, sliders are my first project as well

Even though my X is mostly stock, i'd love to head up with you guys sometime. Donno when the snow will melt up there but it shouldn't be too bad by... um... summer?

Melt by summer  right now I am thinking we may have snow till Aug

Post when you guys figure out when and where I will be game to come down and play. maybe a prerun for the after Moab run.

Tim

I only camped and wheeled near Salida once and it was in March....weather was teens - twenties at night, but the terrain down there was drier than up here. They are quite a bit lower in elevation so I think that helps the wheeling season out.

Although we haven't gotten snow like we have this year in some time so we'll have to see :)

lower in elevation, are you sure? I have to check that out...I know I hit 3 14,000'ers in one day
Salida is at 7,080 feet, thats 2500' higher then my house

according to Google Salida is also 51.4% female :)

You're completely correct... I mis-typed; I should have referenced Well's explaination of the area as "Colorado residents have discovered that summer seems to last a little longer in this part of the state. Winter snows often miss the lower elevations, making it possible to drive some backroads even in the winter" (p. 121).

It was this passage that I had in mind when I referenced elevation :o Not a bad stat on the female ratio though regardless of altitude :D

ok so since we wont be able to wheel for a while, IS THERE ANYWHERE THAT IS GOOD ENOUGH TO WHEEL IN THE NEAR FUTURE, ANYWHERE AT ALL? cause i am honestly dieing over here and it needs to be done or we should plan a meet or something, this snow is killing me (even though i am making good money pullin people out of it)... oh and i started building a front bumper, my metal shop teacher said it would be a good project and oked and so its a go.... but i want to meet up or wheel somewhere....any ideas???

Salida is also gayer than San Francisco :D so any females you meet wouldn't be interested in you anyway, LOL.

we could go above central city and see how much snow there is, or Buffalo Creek, Salida and possibly Slaughterhouse Gulch

So how exactly did you come by such a useful nugget of information?!

Doesn't matter to me I have a snow bunny (though she won't be wheelin' with me :(

91X; honestly there isn't anywhere I can think of that isn't obliterated by the snow... unless maybe you head down to the springs and do Rampart Range Road (and it's tributary trails) and other trails through Garden of the gods... which is rated an 'easy', is easy to navigate and might be fun with some snow on it (IF it's open!!). I'll check with a coworker (read; non-wheeler) who lives in Monument to see if he knows anything.

410; give a head's up if you find that slaughterhouse is passable... I was up there in May in a buddy's Rover and it looked like fun, but could easily be real nasty with 4+ INCHES of snow or so.... I might be up for doing it... possibly with aforementioned buddy (who is also DYING to wheel!). :D

91Xon35s I'm from loveland, and we were planning on a trip up to ballard this weekend. Probably with my friends in a Jimmy and a F-250 turbo diesel. Not too extreme, but there's quite a bit of snow up there.

Whats Ballard? please fill me in!

I am planned to do an engine and transmission swap in a 91 Explorer over the next two weekends so my chances of making anything in this time are slim

I can get in trouble at Slaughterhouse when the dirt is dry, snow will make it impossible in spots and dangerous (depending on your lines) but there is much of it that is just trail and shouldnt be too bad if passable at all

cobra01 i snapped broke my stub shaft thursday night and i cant get the dang part til monday,i wish i could of gone but let us know how bad it is and if its passable, might be a trip in the near future

And with 410 tell us about it i have never heard of ballard before, got any wheelin pics from there??

which shaft did you break?

I have a few spare sets of TTB axle shafts

i broke the drivers side shaft....but i would be willin to buy pretty much any ttb part ya got cause i seem to break em alot...

inner or outer?
I have one if you need it tell me which part

outer...i believe...but yea man id love to take it off your hands, what all do you have for that axle cause i would pretty much buy it all from you if we can work somthin out cause ya never know when ya need parts, but i would for sure like to get the outer from you thanks
