Hi blwnsmoke. Thanks for the reply. I assumed that. The dealer is not happy with my vehicle either and said its a health concern. I know Ford is just trying cover their ass. They said they can get me a car payment made but its almost 2 months now and I'm being to easy with them. I wrote the Ford customer service lady back in an email stating I want a new vehicle and I'm not going to be paying $450 a month for this vehicle that's not going to be the same. In February they had it 3 weeks for a bad alternator and now this.

Look up your lemon law opti ok ns in your state. I would not want it back either.

It usually is a very easy process and use very little money to go through with it.

i was driving my moms 2016 Platinum yesterday in the rain and water poured out of the dome lamps in the front. Yes it has the moonroof. It's got 5,600 miles on it. And it was raining hard and I went down a hill and turned right. I cannot get pictures to post ( phone)
Any update?

My 2016 Explorer Limited ( no sun roof ) is leaking into the rear carpet / floor behind the third seat .
It has 14K miles .
I was checking the spare and found the matting under the spare was soaked as well as the carpeting on the drivers side in the rear behind the third row .
No visible dripping .
It's going in to the dealer on Thurs .
Anybody with a 2016 having similar problems ?

Well update to my 2016 Explorer. 3 months in the shop and they fixed the water leak but could not get rid of the mildew smell. They replaced all the carpet and still smells bad. They did go ahead and approve for me a replacement at the same msrp. Now Im just trying to figure out if I want another explorer or something else.

Jusplayn ,
Where exactly were the leaks ?
My 2016 is leaking in the same area too .

Hello everyone,
Im Monica and im new to this forum but thought someone on here maybe able to help me.
I bought my 2013 ford explorer sport last year as a certified pre owned car from the ford dealer with 18,000 miles on it. I have had nothing but problems with my car from the start, this is not the first time it has had a leak. The first time was leaking water into the cabin down the third row passenger seat belts in which the dealer finally fixed after taking it to two dealers.
Now i have a leak on the driver side to the passenger floor boards that has caused the carpet to become soaked and starting to smell. I did not notice the leak until now since i have the fully coverage floor mats, so i do not know how long this has been going on for.
My husband had lifted the carpet up to see if we could locate the leak since ford told me I could not see them for a week went the "water" specialist would be in.
We did indeed find the leak when my husband sprayed water under the car. The water is somehow entering the car through the floor!!
I am wondering if anyone would know if they would replace the carpet since it is obviously a manufacturer defect and nothing i did to make this leak happen??
I now have 31,500 miles on the car with all the warranties and i even bought an extended warranty.
Please help!

I attached the video below.

Welcome to the forum!! Just about every possible topic you may have questions on has been discussed. Please try using the search function first before starting a new thread so we can keep like questions organized together. I have merged your thread with the existing one.

In regards to your question, water leaks are only covered by the 3yr/36k bumper to bumper warranty. As long as it is less then 3 years old, you will still be covered. There have been cases when Ford has replaced the carpet because they could not get rid of the smell.

Also, extended warrantees do not cover water leaks. Depending how long you have the ESP coverage, you may want to request additional coverage on Ford's dime.

Good luck.

I purchase a 2011 Limited 4WD Explorer in July. I was recently on vacation this past weekend and encountered a lot of rain. When my 8 year old sat in the 3rd row and buckled the seatbelt, water started streaming down the webbing and I also noticed water on the speaker grill. This has happened twice so far.

This was the on the Right Rear 3rd Row. Any idea where the water is entering?

I had the exact same thing happen to my 2013 for explorer sport.
The first dealer said they found the leak and put this "sealer" on the area and claimed the leak stopped, when i went to pick up the vehicle the water was still coming in the car in their parking lot since of course it was raining outside!
i took it to the dealer i bought the car from and they have a "water" doctor they call it and they found the leak, they had tightened the back hatch door which it now rests not flush with the car but it does not leak.
Im now having another area leak in my car as we speak..... i feel like i bought a lemon.

Here's an update on my 2016 water leak .
Mine was leaking down the drivers side rear seatbelt and the left inner rear compartment wall into the spare tire wheel well .
I took a hose and started from the rear hatch and started moving it forward every 5 min. as I was inside looking for it to leak .
I moved the hose along the inner roof rack rail until I made it leak about 2/3 's of the way to the front .
I had removed the spare tire and pulled up the carpeting and was laying on the inside with a flashlight looking for the leak and sure enough found it .
I took it back to the dealer and told the body shop manager what I did and where I made it leak .
The leak was from the roof rack . They resealed it and it hasn't leaked since .
I live on the Oregon coast and it is truly a water leak test ground for vehicles .
Very happy with it now.

Disappointing to read that it is still happening with the 'refreshed' 2016 model. That was a very common location for the earlier models to leak from.

2015 Explorer Sport leaking at the grab handle.

Hello EF,

My 2015 Sport has developed a leak coming out of the passenger grab handle. After a big and lasting rain or snowmelt, a drip will develop coming out of the plug and running down the handle, dripping onto the glovebox door, then down to the floor mat.
My wife has been asking what's with the water always in the mat, my standard answer has been "boot ice". Just yesterday I caught the drip out of the corner of my eye and was surprised by it. So obviously it's been leaking for some time. I also might add that once when about two moths old, it did drip water from the dome light. but I've never seen evidence of that again.

As some background, my sport was vandalized when 4 months old, and the repair necessitated the repainting of the roof, and a replacement of the passenger side roof rail, amongst a pile of bodywork and glass along the drivers side to the tune of $10K. But no windshield. I went back to the shop that did the work and they say the roof rail mounts were not touched. They were very helpful and ran some water, but could find no pattern. When they opened the handle plug, there was some residual water, but that was it.

The car is booked in to Ford next week for a popped out bumper cover, suspected front wheel bearing failing, a second row seat that won't flip up, a squealing idler pulley and this leak. I do like the car, but have become kind of disheartened with it. I'm still moderately hopeful all will be taken care of in the next coming weeks.

Any ideas on the leak? Sunroof related owing to the past water in the dome lamps?

Cheers and thanks,
Mark

Hi, I discovered a similar problem in my vehicle, expect I did not start soaking my vehicle to really figure out where it was coming from. I pulled up the rug and saw two grommets in the rear and assumed thats where it was coming from. Did a majority of the water settle in the drivers side 2nd row floor? Mine appeared to be most saturated by the drivers 2nd row closer to the exhaust system hump. Dropped it off at the dealer today. Just hope they don't go entirely off where I am assuming...

Do you have the moonroof? When water pools in either the front or second row foot wells it is usually a sign of an issue with one of the moonroof's drain tubes. See post #995.

Thank you, I was thinking that but kind of brushed off the thought thinking it could not be clogged being less than a year old. The only thing I couldn't tell in the diagram is where the water is supposed to drain out of when it is working properly?

Hi Nick. I don't know where they drain but it shouldn't be inside the vehicle. One member took his in to get checked out and found that one of the front drains was never installed.
