96 explorer sport 140,000 miles on it. check engine light on. got it checked...resuts: 3rd cylinder has no compression. 22 hours of labor equivalent to approximately $2000 plus parts. recommended that i get a rebuilt engine rather than fix it. how much do they go for? 4L v6. should i just run it as is and let it be until it stops working? sell it for what it is and get as much as I can to buy another car? ideas? let me know pls. thx.

I would talk to a lawyer first. Any decent shop should have been able to figure that out in a couple hours. Remanufactured engines are $2 to 3000 depending where you get them, about 12-hours to replace.

oh sry about the bad grammar. the check didn't take too long. the cost to repair the cylinder was worth 22 hours of work ~$2000. got it tuned for now and seems to run fine. the check engine light is off too. gona keep it runnin like this and see what happens. hopefully some cash will come my way.

I'm in the same situation, cyl#2 is dead. I got another 4.0 to put in. I got a great deal on mine, but you can find them from $300 - $1000 shipped to your door. Check the Ranger forums and any local junk yards.
