Could be plugs- they have abouts 70k and I don't even know what kind. it was done before I read how picky the truck is on plugs. I changed the wires at the same time.

As far as I know the coils are original. I'll have to look into that and how to check the egr valve and injectors.

I think I can rule out the dirty maf and throttle body- cleaned those under 5-10k ago along with the iac to fix my rough idle.

I thought the plugs were picky too but 2 of my friends have had good luck with Bosch Platinums in their 4.0s and both are SOHC.

Just swapped out my 194 map light bulbs to led. Looks really good. Going back this weekend to get two more 194's for the doors and try and find replacements for the front and rear dome lights.
 






I tried to start my '00 5.0 XLT, as I've swapped the plate/insurance off of it over to my ST and I'm no longer driving the XLT. The fuel pump's been finicky when the weather's cold since I got it last year. It took me 25 ON/OFF's with the key to get the fuel pump to run, so I guess the time has come to replace the FP. Wouldn't you know the tank would be full, so I drained it today and tomorrow I plan to get the tank dropped. Even though I'm not using it right now it's "spare truck" so I'd like it to be ready to go if something else craps out over the winter.

Update:
Tank dropped and old fuel pump removed. Now I just need to order the new one and a new strainer. I like this pump kit because it comes with enough hose to do the FP and the FPR as well as the wiring adapter so I don't have to splice anything. It also includes 2 FI clamps, but I'll have to buy 2 more for the FPR. The FI clamps are much more secure than the worm-drive clamps.

Nice heads up on the extra line to not have to splice.

I didn't do much other than eat too much food, watch a lot of football including my Tigers remain #1 in the country!

I did fix a trailer light issue that ended up being a blown fuse on my F350. I have a feeling that was caused by me working on a trailer while it was still plugged into the truck a few weeks ago. Still hunting down an issue that's causing the fuse to blow on my mirror marker lamps. Not the end of the world, but this is my nice truck and it sucks when things dont work as they should.

The Sport Trac didnt get any love since it was left in SC as I drove to VA. The rear door handle will be swapped out soon as time allows though.
 






Replaced the upper and lower thermostat housing to stop a slow coolant leak.

Hardest part are those damn factory hose clips.
 






The brakes on my '01 haven't felt or worked like they should since I bought it over 18 months ago. Last weekend I adjusted the rear brakes per koda's suggestion, and it now stops and feels the way it should. I installed new shocks several months ago, which really tightened the steering - no more floating every which way on every bump or dip. Properly adjusted brakes and the new shocks make driving this truck a much more enjoyable experience!
 






Well, I am not going to hold my breath, but I want to get the fog lights wired and ready to go when I have my radio bezel painted. Today is the New Orleans Saints playing @ 3:23 Central time. I won't be watching, lolol. I think I will have time after church to stop somewhere to get a can of paint and a can of clear coat. My neighbor said he would be more willing to help me out so I am going to try to get the fog lamp installed and the wires ran with a relay in there some where. :thumbs: :D :)

Today I'm planning to install the new fuel pump in my '00 5.0 XLT (if I can work up the ambition). Then I have to figure out whether the clicking coming from my 2WD '00 Mountaineer's blend door actuator is a stripped gears in the motor, or a broken blend door (hoping for a stripped gear). For now I've set the (recently replaced) EATC temp for 78 degrees and unplugged the actuator to shut it up. Also on the list is re-soldering the resistors in the overhead console of my '01 ST because now that's is gotten colder the display is intermittent. The fun never ends. If I get the XLT back together today I'll consider it a good day.

Update:
XLT Fuel pump changed. It lives again! Took me about 2 hours. I'm getting really good at changing fuel pumps - 4 this year.

Maybe I'll feel like re-soldering the overhead console on the ST tomorrow. The Mountaineer can wait. I also have to replace a busted tail light on my trailer. Backed into my other trailer.
 






The last time I cleaned the engine I used the heavy duty gunk cleaner and the gunk shine. While the cleaner did a good job and the shine was nice (at least instant) it was greasy which collected everything. I had some left over cans of the gunk cleaner and decided to go to the self car wash. I will never use their greasy shine again and now won't waste $ on their cleaner as their cleaner couldn't even clean their greasy (w/ dirt and engine grime) shine. Ended up coming home and pulling out the purple degreaser (per koda) and sprayed the engine down and used the house hose to spray it down and the result is what I expected when I went to the self car wash. Didn't have time to spray dressing but I'll try next time And use my water based dressing I use for my tires- it's not greasy and shouldnt attract crap.

I noticed my antenna X I installed awhile back was loose the other day, I guess vibrations. I took it off cleaned everything up and applied blue threadlocker. Should hold now w/out loosening up.
 






I had a good weekend chasing electrical gremlins! recently my fuel gauge died (again), while simultaneously my map lights and door lock switch lights stopped working. While that doesn't seem to logically be connected, they are. All three run off of the auxiliary relay box under the dash. There is a green/orange wire that supplies 12v to different things all over the truck.
So, out came my seat, flooring, and into the wiring harness (again). I found a splice that a previous owner had done poorly (again). Six of the green wires come together there. So, fixed properly, and everything seems to be operating 100%!

I also finished wiring my light bar up with the factory 95-03 fog light switch. A productive couple of days, and I don't want to deal with wiring for a while! Moral of the story, previous owners fixes can't be trusted.
 






Hung the tail pipe on to my new exhaust. 3" from the y pipe to underneath the passenger rear door.

Well, I finally gave up and did it--called the flatbed.

The ongoing fuel pump issues, and the other work I need to have done, made me come kicking and screaming to a painful reality-- since my spinal cord injury, I just can't do anywhere near as much as I used to do. Just collecting the tools is a daunting task. As much as it pains me to pay someone to do things I used to be able to do, it's better to get it fixed than have it become a monument in my yard.

When it comes home, it will have a new fuel pump, four shocks, lowering blocks in the back and torsion bar adjustment in the front to match, camber kit, new front wheel bearings, new brakes (caliper slide stuck and roached a rotor), oil pan gasket and oil change.

Next month, it's a set of tires and an alignment.

Work that I'll do myself includes replacing the rear tonneau cover cable and installing an LED lightbar (driving lights) beneath the license plate.

I finally felt like re-soldering the resistors in the ST's overhead console today. It's an easy fix, but taking that little console apart (and reassembling it) is a PITA. Anyway, repair completed and the display is working again.

On a side note, I went to start my '01 EB 5.0L yesterday and guess what? The fuel pump wouldn't come on. Took me 10 ON/OFF's of the key to get it to spin. So that makes 5 fuel pumps I'll be replacing this year. All but one, original OE fuel pumps, all with between 175-200K miles on them. See a pattern here? Only fuel pump I haven't replaced yet will be the one on the '97 Sport. I should probably keep my mouth shut huh?

That's for sure. Every time a change a fuel pump I discover faster, easier ways to change one. Another skill I hope to never need again.
 






Driving my '01 after dark a few times recently - daughter drove it last winter, so I've not driven it at night away from street lights much - I noticed how poor the headlights are - poorly aimed and the right one was terribly cloudy, so I replaced it last week with one I got from the salvage yard. I replaced the left one with a new one when I first bought the truck as it was broken. As I was taking the cloudy one out, I found the front stop had been pushed back through the hole in the headlight bucket. (One plastic/nylon stop goes in front of the bucket & the other goes behind with the long metal clip between the back one and the bucket, thereby holding the headlight in place.) The previous owner hit a deer on the right front, and that corner was repaired at least once before that. I had to break a little of the edges off the stop to get it back through the hole so the light could be removed. I still need to aim both lights, but getting that one installed correctly instead of the top being back 1/2 - 3/4" should be a big help.
 






I installed a set of CoverKing dark grey ballistic nylon seat covers on the front seats of my ST. I received them as a Christmas present. They're a bit of a PITA to install, but they're not bad fit-wise and they cover my wore out/torn driver's seat and protect my passenger seat from my copilot (my dog). I'd rate the seat covers a 7/okay. Then I changed a burnt out HVAC control bulb (even though I had just changed them a couple of months ago) and installed 2 new hood support struts that I got off eBay for under $17 for the pair. It's such a pleasure not to have to use a stick to hold the hood open now.
 






I've got to replace the wheel bearings on the front driver's side, the upper control arm and lower ball joint on the front passenger side, replace the top bushings on both of the front shocks, change my oil, and clean my air filter. But what did I actually do?

Installed a 20" light bar to the front bumper guard instead. :D
