Alright guys,

I finally found a person that has headlights and I bought them. So now I need to put in the bulbs. I was looking around for the bulbs and all I could find was the slyvanna, and I am not looking to buy those. So I was wondering what kind you guys put in yours.

What type do you own?

How much of a diffrence did they make?

Where can I buy them?

Any other brands to suggest?

Thanks!!

:)

Phillips True High/Low 8,OOO K HID's.

Made a huge difference!

You can find them on the net, and local Ricer Shops. Be careful and buy a good quality set.

FET Catz 4300K Rising White True HID kit! These things are absolutely amazing. Highly recommended if you can shell out the cash. Put these on my new Tacoma.

Best halogen on the market in my opinion is the Sylvania silverstar. Most light and great price on them. I had them on my explorer, outstanding.

WE use Sylvania silverstars on our first gen X..

It made a big difference for us.. as we have to drive on windy 2 lane middle of nowhere roads every day... Much whiter light make it easier to pick out the deer, skunks, and javelinas(sp?) that like to wander out in front of the truck..

APC superwhites...huge dif!

cost 40/set at auto parts store.

i have run them in 2 first gen x's and a 97 saturn and a 97 contour with never a problem.

Sylvania Silverstars along with my PIAA 510s make up for the poorly designed 2nd gen headlights.

No better bulb for the money.

I still have my PIAA Superwhites that I bought from Matt Adams in a group buy 3 years ago. They still work great!!! I love it!! But as soon as one of them burns out, I'll be getting SilverStars.

You said something about not wanting Sylvania. You mean SilverStars or regular bulbs?
What do you want your lights to do or look like?
Need a little more info from you.

I was just wanting some really good lights Bill..

I just didn't want the lower class of sylvana's.

But by the looks of it, the the SilverStars seem to be a group favorite..

I would go with the Silverstars. I have PIAA on one headlight and SS on the other and I cant tell the difference.
I would really consider going to a high power harness to get all the output out of the lights that you can.
You can buy a harness at www.suvlights.com
Or make one like Dan Sterns http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/tech.html Useing the chart at http://catalog.com/susq/other/wiring.htm to size the wire correctly.
Its more work than just plug & play but it really pays off in brightness.

I have Sylvania SilverStars in my head lights, and my fog lights. Amazing difference. Headlight and fog lights combined, there is never a need to use high beams even on the darkest non-lit country roads.

Trust me---Get the SilverStars!

Silverstars all the way baby!!!!!!! wouldn't have it any other way!!!! (except maybe HID)

Consider yourself lucky. Dad and I have found that our Explorers seem to have a high rate of consumption of APC SuperPlasma something or other's. We've burned up 5 since January. Thank God I only paid $9/set and they have a warranty.

Same with me, I burned up three of them until I just finally gave up and went back to stock.

many i have talked to said they have had problems with the APC bulbs but they have several dif series....the ones i use, only 1 place local carries them so more than likely they were not the same ones that most others use. like i said, 40/set (sold in pairs).

I replaced my headlights with SilverStars about two weeks ago and my SilverStar fogs just came in today and i installed those. I also have one of those wire harness things from suvlights.com coming in. Hopefully it will be worth it.

tell us the diff w/ the silverstar fogs...

And let us know about the wire harness thing also.

Aldive will tell you all about the upgraded wiring harness...

Yea, There is a long post Aldive did about the harness. I can agree with what he said about the quality. It is a great harness and even though this is a universal kit it seems to have been made specifically for the explorer and was easy to install.

As far as it being a huge increase in light output with the SilverStars  ... Save your money. I think alot of people have great imaginations. If there is any difference it is nothing to brag about and try to get your friends to buy. If you are going to go with higher wattage bulbs then the harness is a must so you dont melt any of your stock wires.

Today wasnt really a good day to give a good opinion on the SilverStar fogs because it was raining and these whiter bulbs seem to not give out as much light when the ground is wet. I can say however that there is a huge difference in color between the stock bulbs and the SilverStars. If you already have SilverStar headlights and are happy with them then i would recomend getting the fogs so that they match.

The only thing that i wasnt so happy about is the fog bulbs are a bit on the expensive side. I bought them directly from Sylvania.

Another thing that i forgot to mention above is the harness from suvlights.com came with a $10 mail in rebate for the SilverStars :)
