1996 with under 100k? Lucky...lol...
I have a 1996 with 100k that I just bought, and am ironing the kinks out now. OHV/auto, 3.55:1. The muffler was rotten so I replaced it with a straight pipe. K&N filter, 5w-40 synthetic oil and all synthetic fluids, but other than that, it is stock. I have gotten about 240 to a full tank, but it is cold here so I give the truck generous warmup time when starting from cold, so this depresses the gas mileage figure.
The K&N fiter and removal of the muffler makes a noticeable difference in both power and mileage.
I also have a 1997 Sport with a 5-speed, 3 inches lift/31's, and it gets 22 avg. OHV, 3.73. Stock muff, K&N filter. 390k mi.
Finally I have a 1995 sport, 4.5 inch lift, 33's, OHV, auto, 3.55. This gets around 12 mpg, but it was usually in the woods, rarely sees pavement. Also muff delete and K&N, also noticeable difference. 180k mi.
