What size wheels???

I have a stock '98 X 4x4. I am going to get a TT and 1 1/4 rear shackles. I need something that is still very good on the road because I have to drive cross country a few times a year. What would be a good size wheel and tire to get with a close to stock suspension?

I would say 31s so you don't need to worry about trimming or regearing as much, but you could look through this to help you more.

i agree, i did a TT and shakle lift and 31's are the perfect size.

I would have to agree with colin. I did the tt and shackle thing, Then put 33's on just to see how much rubbing would be involved with that setup. My conclusion was that 31 would more then likely be the best bet with that setup.

if you are going to be on the highway alot and some offroad, i love my dunlop rover a/t 31x 10.50's....they are easy on the milage, love ice and snow and they are quiet . dunlop rates them for sound from 1-10 and they give them a 10 for quietest...i think they have a 60,000 mile rating and are only 100 each? at discount tires...

I had dunlop rovers on my rig before I switched to my 33's and I was so...so....so very impressed with them. Mud, snow, ice, sand.. All good.

just curious jiga20001?...did you ever drop the air pressure dwn to 10-15 pounds for rock or sand and if so, how did they work out?...i never have yet, and i would wrather hear from someone who has, especially when it's getting close to that time of year out here

I recently got Dunlop Rover RVXT. They are categorized by TireRack as On/OFF road tires (all terrain) but the tread pattern is actually a lot more aggressive that how it looks in the pictures.

It's probably not the best compromise tire but this will be more of my "highway" tires. I run a set of dedicated winters. (Not that I need them here in Vancouver BC)

It averaged about an "8" rating compared to other AT tires. This is a different tire and tread patter compared to the older Dunlop RV.

Good price. Very quiet on the road. The 30-31" LT versions actually have 16 to 17/32 tire tread. Regarding most reviewers issue on tire wear - I haven't noticed any. Just do the chalk test instead of sticking to sidewall recommendations (The LTs are marked as up to 65psi / The regular rvxts are marked 44psi)
