i have to race a civic this weekend and i have no idea what's going to happen. the civic is stock and my explorer has headers, intake, and shift kits but will this be enough? Does anyone have an idea of the quarter mile time for a V6 SOHC explorer?

You should be able to beat a stock Civic.

i think its a 98, maybe 50 bucks, not sure yet, i have stock 3:73's and 33 inch tires

I can always get them off the line, but the OHV has no top end whatsoever.

i can't find the quarter mile time for a stock new explorer anywhere. it looks like if he can drive he could make it in 15.3 sec at 91 mph

i think with the headers, intake, shift kit and big tires i should me able to beat him. i should be able to take him off the line too but i don't know if i can hit 90 in a quarter mile. i guess there's only one way to find out.

put your stock tires on and do it..lol would have a better chance.

idk i would think you could..but those tires with those gears it might be close.

You might beat him off the line but you gotta remember the weight factor will catch up too you. Is it a stick? Is it just for a .25 mile? is it at a track? or your local street strip? do you guys watch fast and the furious every sunday and whenever they do some wicked cool stunts do you give each other high 5's and get the urge to race your X? just some questions that might make me understand why you would race a semi-stock explorer.

3.73 and 33s LOL this is about the worst combo you can have. The only thing worse is the race itself. This ought to be about exciting as watching paint dry. Save your $50 and go to the races and see some real cars race. Is this a honor type race you've got yourself into?

If you win, what have you done except beat a stock civic. But if you loose you will be forever known as the Lead Sled.

when i had 33s i beat my friends civic who had intake and exhaust. it would probably be a tie race now that i have 35s. and i only have 3.73 gears.

With 33s on 3.73 you actual gear ratio is close to 3.27 if you had 235/75/15 as stock tires. With 35s in the same setup, its down to 3.08 gear ratio. Definately on the bad end of the gear ratio band. Re-gear with 4.10 or higher.

ive got 4.56s waiting to be installed

Sounds like a perfect opportunity for "Nitrous in a bag" as insurance for winning your race challenge.

I don't know about this one. I have a 5.0 w/ 373's and 32's Mines not fast.
You might want to have a tug of war instead. Or smash into the side of him
off the line Then beat him to the end.

Here's the 0-60 times for 2000 Explorers (no 0-60 listed for '01s), from http://www.explorerforum.com/ntrprize/

0-60 Acceleration
4.0L OHV V6 10.5 sec
4.0L SOHC V6 8.1 sec
5.0L V8 8.8 sec

Of course, these are hardly accurate with 33s. Good luck. Smoke the lil' bastid and make us proud. ;)
