whats faster, explorer or civic?

I guess what I am saying is that some people just want to have fun sometimes, whether it be on a lawnmower(don't get me started) or a 600 hp Mustang. :D

Yeah I know. Sometimes I like to argue for the sake of arguing... I'm done hehe

Your right about some people just like to see any kind of race. I was racing many years ago at Rockingham NC Drag strip at one of the national races. And after the race about a month later, Hot Rod magazine came out and said that this is some of the most dedicated fans in the sport. That they would come out to see Bill "Grumpy Jenkins" match race a farm tractor. At that same race I watched as one Top Fuel dragster would not stage letting his competition overheat. Well, the guy that overheated was a local favorite. Somebody thru out a beer can. What happened next was more exiting then any thing that happened at that race. It was like a chain reaction. The seats at Rockingham are huge and it seemed that most people had a big cooler filled with beer next them. I mean all the way down the quater mile. Then it was copy cat time. Thousands and I mean thousands of empty beer cans and some that were'nt empty werer thrown out on the track. They had to shut down the races to clean the whole 1/4 mile track. Even the same magazine article said it was the most beer drinking boisterious crowd they have ever seen. Another thing about what you said about people love to watch any kind of race. At that same race I was working on my hotrod. Now this was an allmost all fiberglass car, injected moutain motor, straight axel with a parachute to help in slow down. Just by looking and listining to it, you know it was bad. Some fan drunk, as hell, came up to me when we had the fiberglass front end up. And said, son, I just won $10.00 on you. I'm thinking WTF. I said, what do you mean. He said that you just beat that ford. I said that was only time trials and that ford was a stock as hell 55 ford with stock tires. Who in their right mind would bet that that ford would win?

Just goes to show ya, some people just don't care, just as long as its a race.
About the farm tractors. I'll post some pics of some small John Deers that I have helped build. These are pulling tractors with extended frames and even wheelie bars that my partner Jack has for his sons. He just bought an old 1947 full size 2 cylinder tractor for pulling. Each piston is about 8" in dia. I'll post some pics of these in another forum.

My dad sold his '57 John Deere 720 high crop diesel pony motor start a while back. They've got some awesome engineering

especially for just having a moded briggs & straton.

Who said anything about them having to be modded? :D Lets just say i grew up out in the country and there wasn't allot to do and not allot to do it with. Limited resources equal stupid games. But hey we kept ourselves entertained. ;)

You know what i miss, racing. When i lived in the middle east, in Jordan, i would race a modified 2001 BMW 540i 6speed. That car was fast and it smoked the comp. But as for for my mountaineer and dealing with your ricers and what not, i smoke em every time off the line. Havent gone past 50...cuz the speed limit was 50 so i would stop. Have to be responsible too.

So, did you ever race the civic?
That was three months ago

I think the european cars are funner to race than ricers, cuz they really think they drive the fastest cars. But then they have some real performance to some degree and are hard to get in Explorers (what my Reatta is for)

Yes sir they do have performance. Even though we stripped the Bimmer, took out the rear seats, all the sound deadening material, front seats were recaro's, and installed a roll cage. With an intake and exhaust, and upgraded coilovers, that bimmer was a beast. But that aside, im seeing more of the domestic manufacturers adding european styling and function to the cars. Has anyone drove a 06 Cadillac STS recently with the V8? That thing is a massive upgrade in build quality and performance than from a couple years ago. The domestic auto maker is finally realising and wising up that if it doesnt improve its act, they are going to lose more of the market share it has to the japaneese car industry. I personally never want to see ford, chevy, dodge and what not die off.

GM already did respond to the europeans...the Aurora and Intrigue :p Look it up. Nice cars but won't make mercedes and bimmer buyers change their minds

Especially since oldsmobile is OOB

Well after reading this i had to laugh a little. I have a 99 sport and i just recently killed a 1984 corolla 5 speed that was worked on. It was funny watching a explorer haul ass on a back road. By the way i am running 31's with a 4.10 locked rear and yes i 4 wheel. I had a honda civic. NO TQ but they have high Redlines as for the acura that i owned before i got this 4000 pound beast. I would have to say that the civic would loose. My old acura tho was a 210 WHP beast which would have eaten my sport along with most explorers on the road (minus the turbo'd one i seen).

Stock '97 explorer sport, 130k miles, 4:10 rear.
Beat 96 civic, long tubes, cai, chip, and a huge wing.
Since then, i have cai, brown wire mod, electric fan, new plugs 'n' wires.

although i think our explorer is faster than our 99 328i, the bmw HANDLES like nothing ive ever driven, and its not slow ither but it is an auto

I would hope that the V-8 Explorer with your mods could beat a stock, older, 6 cylinder, lower to mid level 4 door sedan inexpensive German product. Not a real comparison. Basically, an apples to oranges comparison.

I'm going to resurrect antiquity here, just for giggles....

Did a 4.56 geared Ex w/33s smoke a Civic?

This inquiring mind wants to know.

Umm 4500 lb vehicle with 33s with a motor that puts out 155 HP - 15% for drivetrain loss vs a 2000 lb car with no serious rolling mass to contend with.. You can make your own decision..
