...i belive you will need to also swap the harness's and computer...i am not sure what all your state's requirement's are but you are usually required to have the newer parts for emission's...i hope this helps...

Yes, but you need to use the 96 model external parts, sensors and wiring etc.

Complexity

How much complexity an I adding tot he engine replacement project then? Is it worth it?

With the amount of work you'll have to do, why don't you just drop in a 302 into her?

If anyone in near central Wisconsin needs a good engine, tranny 4WD or other parts, I have a 98 4.0 with 98Kmiles that was tboned on the driver door, still driveable or towable for sale. Make an offer, I will likely take it.

Good call its exactly what she needs

To answer the question
A 93 ohv engine will go in place of a 96 ohv engine yes. Just the block and heads
Everything else must be from the 96 including the oil pan and pickup
However it is like working backwards
A 96 ohv engine has many internal upgrades over a 93, much stronger heads in a 96
Also the intake manifold gaskets are vastly different .. again would have to use only the block and heads from the 93… all intakes gaskets sensors etc must be for a 96

I would never do this
Instead I would find the lowest mile 96-00 ohv I could and use that or just rebuild the 96 engine
