Do I have to buy a new pan for this, or is there a way around that? I already have the gauge, gotta pick up a sender then wire it up. Ideas?

You don't have to buy a new pan...
You can just cut a section out of the tranny fluid pipe near the radiator (I think it is still there on later models, someone will correct me if I'm wrong), and then connect the two ends back together with a compression T fitting, then screw the sender into the fitting and you are all set.

Exactly. I cut into the rubber lines, and made an "adapter" from brass fittings that had a hose barb on each end, an auxilliary filter, and a T fitting for the sender.

Here is a photo of the assembly:

Here is where it's mounted:

Even though this is inline after the radiator cooler, and before the aux cooler, the Autometer gauge reads the same as the tranny temp sensor the PCM uses. (Accessed value via OBD-2)
