Yesterday I walked into a car dealership with two titles in hand, one for my 2000 SVT Ford Contour and the other for my '98 Ducati 916. I walked out with the title for a '93 white on red 6 speed Corvette. No cash was involved, just a straight up 2 for 1. The cars are both bone stock, each has 100k miles and the bike is basically stock with a rebuilt title. I think I did pretty good in the deal, I wouldn't say I fleeced the guy or anything, but I definitely think I did ok. What do you all think????

vette = auto or stick?

okay you are not crazy then :)

Not one that I would make, but if the Vette is what you wanted, then it was a decent trade.

do you think I gave up too much or are you just not a "Vette guy"?

I've never driven a corvette.. but I have a '95 Mondeo 2.0 Si 4x4... Which is the UK version of the contour.. and I love it, I don't think I'd have traded..

You would have to be a vette person to make this trade, that is all
As far as value goes, it looks fair but what does NADA say?

the contour was fine, it was a very pratical car. If mine was AWD like yours I might have kept it...maybe. i just thought it was kind of boring. The Ducati was definitely a lot harder to part with than the car

agreed. not sure what NADA value is but Kelley Blue Book had it right around 10 grand give or take. I bought both the Contour and the Ducati for 4 grand a piece.

as long as you're happy, that's all that matters. I'm a ford guy and it'd take a lot for me to part with any of my cars really... I love them all for very different reasons..

I'd do it if it wasn't going to be my daily driver, and I had a garage to keep it in. If you keep it in good condition, it will probably hold its value better in the long run.

Both. :D I'm not a Vette guy at all, but that bike was probably worth almost 8k by itself. But it's hard to say because I see that year Vette going for anywhere from 8k - 16k around here. Like I said though, if you like the Vette then good deal. I almost traded my motorcycle for a car that was worth 2k less just because I liked it. :dunno: :)

IN my Opinion FWIW i think he did ok considering the bike had a rebuilt (salvage) title on it.
since that alone can drop the value of a vehicle significantly.

i hear you froader. but like cyber was saying, the salvage title really hurts the value of the bike. it has a rebuilt title because it was an insurance job by the previous owner who is a friend of mine. i had to do a pretty good job of selling the bike to the dealer to get him to take it-even though it's never been dumped and only had 7500 miles. people don't want to buy salvage title vehicles, especially bikes. that being said, i've seen really nice 916s go for $7-8k private party so 4 is about what i was expecting from a dealer. he'll probably get $4500-$5000 when he resells it....

Even if the Ducati had a rebuilt title..its still sex on two wheels!

it was by far the most beautiful bike i have ever seen, but i would never get another one. it just wan't good enough from a reliability standpoint. i never had the confidence in it to take it for 2-3 hundred miles trips like I could with my japanese bikes. and even so, it was still VERY hard to part with.

I got to ride a 916 years ago- sex on wheels YES. 2-300 mile trip HELL NO. Reliability wouldnt even be my concern... go sit on a sawhorse made of 2x4's and imagine sitting there for several hours lol.

True dat. I guess no matter the trade, a great deal is if you're happy with the outcome.

A buddy of mine rode a 916 (and his cousin on a Harley 883) from CA to NY to CA right out of high school and they took the long way there and back. I told him his balls were either going to be gone or the size of rabbit pellets by the time he got back. I couldn't even imagine going that far on any crotch rocket.

u plan on doing mods to the vette and how much mileage in it it looks mint conditon for that year

#### no I would not make that trade. vettes suck in my book because you invest the same amt of cash into a stang, look better, be faster, and handle better that a vette. factual for the most part, except for the look better part. that's an opinion.
